Rear Finish Mower WHICH REAR FINISH MOWER?

Did the $1800 price for the LandPride include the anti-scalp roller option? This option is definitely worth getting up front.

Also, was this price for hard tires or pneumatic tires? Pneumatic tires are a little more maintenance but they make for a smoother ride for the mower.

80 miles is your closest LandPride dealer??? Keep in mind that many parts such as blades, belts, pulleys, etc. can easily be shipped to you from just about any LandPride dealer.

You may be able to do a little better on the price. Tarheel Tractor has a LandPride FDR1672 advertised for $1650. I assume this is with hard tires and without the anti-scalp option.

LandPride Mowers at Tarheel Tractor

You can't go wrong with the LandPride. It's built like a tank and extremely easy to maintain. Of course, you couldn't go wrong with most of the ones mentioned.

I'm pricing RFMs also.

If you haven't seen a BushHog, they are well made and built heavy. They were +/- $1800 around here.

Woods about the same and LandPride about $1600.

The Sitrex mowers are $300-400 cheaper and I can't find one to look at, has to be ordered. I don't know if that means everybody buys them and they're sold out or if they're hard to get supplied.

The guy selling LandPride and BushHog also carries KK and said if I bought it, I'd be back to see him needing parts. Another guy said the same thing about Big Bee, he also carried LandPride and Woods.

I don't think any of the LandPride, Woods, or BushHog products would be a bad choice. If the boss ever gives me the OK, I'll probably get a BushHog just because I like red.

I disagree; there is a world of difference in performance between a side discharge and rear. The side discharge mowers will only handle light cuts; heavy cuts will clog things up and make nasty windrows. The rear discharge mowers are like a cross between a brush hog and a finish mower, as they will handle heavy grass much like a brush hog, and distribute the clippings on fine finish cuts much more evenly.

However, I wouldn't try to do thick brush or super rocky or stumpy areas with the rear discharge finish mower.

I wasn't commenting on the performance aspect of the rear vs side discharge just that there is not really any mechanical difference in the two other than the location of the discharge. Yes you could could a little heavier grass, but I would not push it too far. Rear discharge mowers are not a good substitute for a bush hog. The finish mowers use a belt drive that can slip and burn up if you get into anything too thick. Rear discharge mowers are the way to go though.

I've owned a Landpride for 14 years now and can attset to their durability...
2 sets of blades, 1 drive belt, and 2 wheels...
Thats mowing 4 acres per week for 36 weeks at 14 years...
Never replaced a bearing...
Unreal...
They only negative is the paint...
I want to upgrade to a 7 footer...
I'll look at the same units you're looking at...
Woods, Bushhog, Landpride, Beefco, First Choice
But...
My Landpride has been a great unit...

we run a Woods mower 15 feet cut with three decks that all can be lifted hydraulicly. You need 50 to 60 HP to run it. It runs great on my M7040 and I generally mowe in 4 th gear at 4.5 miles per hour which gets me 540 rpm on the pto. There is an electronic display in the dash that shows pto speed which is a nice feature. cheers

I am either gonna buy the Land Pride, Bush Hog, or the Woods finish mower..........Considerations in that order.

Around here, the Land Pride is the best for support. What I mean is more dealers around here sell this brand, which in term have most parts "on shelf". Next in line would be the Bush Hog brand, then Woods. Some of these dealers sell 2 of the 3 brands though.

IF I can find a good price on the internet DELIVERED from a dealer to my door, that would be who I would most likely buy from.......gotta a price from a dealer, that participates on here, on the Land Pride FDR1672. It was a good price, but the delivery fee made everything add up too much.

One dealer told me that he recommends the LP over the BH brand.......He sells both brands and the LP was cheaper.......might be because he only keeps the LP brand in stock though.

I would like to see a BH brand in person. Beig that its a "Bush Hog", it gotta be well built. I think that the Bush Hog model I am looking at has an adjusting nut that you manually tighten for the belt tension...IF it does for sure, that would probably turn me away from it.

Travis,

Where in S La. are you located? I am in N Baton Rouge. I just purchased a Woods PRD7200 for $2100, it's the next model up from the Heritage line. If memory serves me correct, Liberty Tractor in Miss. carries the Bush Hog finish mower. IMO, I was not impressed, it didn't look as well made as the Land Pride or the Woods (that's based on visual and not on actual use).Once I seen the LP and Woods side by side I chose the Woods based on deck design, throat capacity, and spindle location. I'm sure if you maintain it well you will get your moneys worth out of any one of the three.

GIJOE,

I am near Livingston. Yes- I have narrowed it down to a Woods or Land Pride. Did you buy yours from Liberty Tractor? I have been there 3 or 4 times, but never done business with them.

Travis,
No I didn't buy from Liberty. After researching tractors, dealers and implements for about the past year I bought from Chandlers Equip. on Greenwell Springs Rd. He's about 7 miles from the house and gave me a better deal.

GIJOE,

I know who you are talking about- Alvin Chandler. Where exactly is he located? I've never been there. Does he sell both the Land Pride and Woods brands? Whats the phone number? They have a web site?

Thanks,

Chandlers Equip is on located on Greenwell Springs Rd. 12 miles north of Magnolia Bridge Rd. on the right hand side. He has a big Mahindra sign, tractors and implements, you cant miss it. He does not sell Land Pride. He does not have a web site as far as I know.

Thanks Joe.

I always get Chandler's Equipment confused with Gulf South Equipment, which is on Hooper Rd.

What dealership did you see the Woods and LP side by side?

What dealership did you see the Woods and LP side by side?

It wasn't at a dealership. (Long story short) A friend of mine has a Mahindra 4505 w/ a LP mower. A friend of his has a Kubota ???? with a Woods mower. One of the rear wheels on the Woods mower was damaged from hitting a utility pole while turning real sharp. The tractor and mower was brought to my friends house to get fixed, and that's where I seen both side by side. I don't know of any dealer around here that caries both, most usually cary a premium brand and a cheaper off brand.

Here is a link that comes from the Woods web site. It's a comparison of the entry level mowers. A lot of these features can also be seen in their upper models as well. They may be kind of biased in favor of their own product, but I think they make some valid points that most people don't consider.Woods Equipment Company

I have a buddy and an uncle with the Woods Brush Bull 60 rotary cutter. My buddy likes his, but my uncle doesn't.....but he hasn't took care of it.......It is ALL beat to he** and back........He bought it new a little over a year ago and pulls it behind his 97' Massey Ferguson 231 tractor ( which currently keeps blowing head gaskets- 2 in one week) You aught to see the tractor though.......Its pitiful. He doesn't take care of anything.......He uses it in his fox pens.

Anyway, I looked at their woods cutters that they have.......I was not impressed at all. I stepped on the decks and you could hear/feel the sheet metal give......I didn't like that at all.........My Bush Hog SQ600 Squealer doesn't do that. I paid less for my cutter than they did for theirs by the way.

What i'm saying is that I hope Woods finish mowers are better than the brush bull cutters........The finish mower I choose will have to be in my posession for a long time.

I will go to Chandler Equipment and look at the Woods cutters.

GIJOE,

I am guessing they carry the Heritage line made by Woods? The one that you bought is more than I want to spend. Even though I think you got a very good price on that model. I would like to stay around $1700 or below, of course I have to add tax to the price. My 'Uncle Sam' wouldn't like that if I didn't.

I kind of feel guilty for not buying the Bush Hog brand.......I have had very good luck with my Squealer.

Travis R

By the way, M & L Industries on Airline Hwy. sells both Bush Hog and Land Pride........I haven't called them yet though.

I'm not sure if he does or not. If not, he may be able to order one for you. You may want to call before you go so you don't waste a trip for nothing.

Don't get the wrong idea. I'm not trying to persuade you to by something you don't want or need. If it meets or exceeds you're expectations, that may be the right one for you. Like I've said before, I'm sure any of the three would last many many years if maintained properly.

Yes, You are correct.....I will buy either the Land Pride "The Patriot" FDR1672, or the Woods "Heritage" RD72......deciding factor will probably be which ever one I get a better deal on. I'll call Chandler's tomorrow.

Thanks for everyone's support............i'll let ya' know what I decide on.

Whatever make of rear mower you go with, check out the location of guide wheels and if it comes with anti – scale rollers. I just purchased a new 60in Kioti RFM and it looks like all the rest. 2 wheels up front and 2 in the rear, rollers are an option. I find mine scalps and the rear corners dig into the sod on uneven ground. Earlier there was a post from a guy with a Wabco/Douglas mower, it looks like the right idea, 3 wheels in the rear, 2 up front and anti scalp rollers in the front. My two cents worth.
