AH Ha - now I understand why technical journals are so difficult for me to comprehend. "written to 3rd grade level" That's why I like BIG pictures so much too...........

I think the port side is the left side, and starboard is the right.

...glad I could help!!

I was a tech writer for many years - When describing mechanical equipment the right and left is ALWAYS determined by the normal position of the operator when using that equipment. Another pet peeve of mine is the "Lefty loosey" "Righty tighty" - Better to say clockwise or counter-clockwise or top to the left or top to the right. "Always write to the 3rd grade level for clarity". Many more too numerous to list.

Third grade level is pretty advanced for some "normal" people out there today.

What if it is a English tractor with the passenger sitting sidesaddle on the offside while thinking about fishing off a boats port side?

Sit in the tractor seat. Your left hand is on the left side of the tractor, your right hand is on the right side of the tractor. Just like any other motorized vehicle.

Unless youre sitting in the backhoe seat ;)

That doesn't work so well on a TLB. What happens when we spin the seat around to work the backhoe? Do all the right and left hand fittings change sides?

Curious what they’d do for this one?

That is why - " sitting in the NORMAL position" takes effect.
