i have a 1965 855 wheel horse and i was pulling scrap steel out of my woods and i fried a belt because the set screw on the transmission was loose so the belt jump off the pulley and was turning on the shaft. i bought a new belt and put it on but when you press the clutch pedal in the belt continues spinning. im not sure if i broke something in the transmission that hold that pully back or what. any advice let me know

Not sure about your model, but on my later model machine (C-125 early '80's) if you remove the cover on the right side, to the right of the gear shift levers, you can see the movement of the pulley (I think it's the idler pulley, but not remembering at the moment) when the clutch pedal is depressed. It's easy to see and check.. There is a spring that pulls it back to tension when you remove your foot from the clutch. That is visible from under the seat. Maybe your spring broke or is weakened? Just a guess.
