What's up with off road fuel prices??

/ What's up with off road fuel prices?? #21
I just need to make sure I get all the dyed diesel out of my 550 gallon tank before I start putting road diesel in it. I'd hate to get busted for doing the right thing but have a gallon or so in the bottom of my tank make all my diesel turn red.
Might look into renting/hiring a steam pressure washer to clean it out completely.

Well heck, if it's gonna cost the same for off road, dyed, diesel as taxed on road, I'll just fill my tanks with on road from now on so I can have the option of filling my pickup and RV at home.

Someone mentioned getting the road tax back when doing taxes, but I have no clue as to how to do that even if I ran 100% of the fuel in off road vehicles. I'd assume that I would have to keep log books of every hour run on all of my off road equipment, and that would be about impossible. I think I have around 13 or 14 diesel powered machines. There's not enough time in my day to try to log hours on each one in some book if that's what I'd have to do. Heck, I generally get audited about every 3 years or so and the IRS owes me a few hundred bucks each time. I appreciate the money back but, again, the time part isn't worth it.

I think I have a jealous BIL who turns in an "anonymous tip" to the IRS to get me audited. You'd think after a while they'd get smart and realize that I'm not cheating and check out the person giving them the bad tips. Oh well, clearly it doesn't operate that way. I know he cheats like **** on taxes but my wife would have a cow if I turned him in and he lost everything. Being that he isn't so bright, I have to assume it's just a matter of time. It will be a bummer if there is a limit on how far they can go back when they find he's been cheating though. He's cheated for so long now, I'm sure he would still come out ahead after having to pay back taxes and penalties if they can only go back a few years. But, I'm off the subject and I suppose it's not my business. I just need to make sure I get all the dyed diesel out of my 550 gallon tank before I start putting road diesel in it. I'd hate to get busted for doing the right thing but have a gallon or so in the bottom of my tank make all my diesel turn red.

I see you made a trip to HF (or your dad did i guess)

Called today on prices of fuel. Near my farm one place said min order of 100 gallons and if no other delivery in my area there will be a $40 fee ontop of that. HHO was $2.90 delivered and i asked about #2 off-raod and it was $3.05/gallon. There the same thing? Well maybe there off-raod is #2 dyed ULSD and the HHO is a mix of LSD #2 deisel and Kero? The other place i called was $2.84 delivered again 100 gallon min. I am buying for my 2nd home or farm house which we just stay at on the weekends during deer season and other times we go there , so i dont use much heating oil in the 1200sqft home and my tractor is so small it dosent use but about 3 gallons if i run for 4-5 hours or so.

My solution is to get a 55gallon oil barrel and go to the bulk distributer here where i live, i was quoted $2.69 for #2 off-road if i pick it up. They will fill my drum and i will take it to the farm when i go next. I ordered a hand pump off amazon to transfer the 50 gallons. This way i will almost pay for my setup with the purchase of this first batch of fuel.

Had to go to the shop and look at my gas tickets.
unleaded 87 octane #3 un 1203 pgII what ever the numbers mean was $2.417 per gal. and no corn juice and had the fuel additive to keep the fuel stable for the winter I use this gas for s/b gen when needed.
For diesel Dyed low sul non-taxed 3na1993 PGIII was 2.595 per gal.
The gas had a tax of St gas tax of .220 & Fed gas tax of .1830 per gal
The state had a diesel tax .064 per gal. but no fed. tax.
Ya'all come to Ark. for good fuel prices.

You would assume wrong. You need to keep a record of all the fuel you fill
into off road equipment. I keep a log book and have a fuel gauge on my
pump. A hand written record for individuals is acceptable to the IRS. My
gauge has a totalizer that cannot be reset, I record the totalizer value
before and after pumping, calculate the volume dispensed and enter what
unit it was pumped into along with the date. Been audited once and they
found that the record keeping was excellent, almost made $1000 back from
the IRS that day. I do not cheat on my taxes and my tax man is a 25 year
retiree from the IRS.

Good advice, I would also keep those receipts handy on to show when you
switched. DOT gets really pissey about dye in on-road vehicles. But if you
can show when you stopped purchasing dyed fuel and switched to undyed
you will likely win any case.

You might also want to call back you "former" fuel supplier and get a written
quote to back up your story, in case you ever need back up your story. And
do not tell you BIL as he will call the DOT for your convience.

It will be a bummer if there is a limit on how far they can go back when they find he's been cheating though.

Just an FYI, the statute of limitations for violations of the US Tax laws (Title 26 United States Code) is 3 years. This includes cheating on your taxes, not paying special occupancy taxes, violations of the National Firearms Act, etc. Essentially after 3 years with very few special exceptions, it's as if any violations never occurred.

That rather stinks for those of us who play by the rules and pay through the nose for taxes. I guess it's different when you just don't file a return like Snipes (fool). He gets a free room at the Gray Bar Motel for his efforts besides the penalties and fines.

"Under section 6501(e) of the Tax Code and section 301.6501(e)-1 of the Tax Regulations the statute of limitations is 6 years if the taxpayer omits additional gross income in excess of 25% of the amount of gross income stated in the tax return filed with the IRS.

<snip>

The statute of limitations does not apply in the case of a false tax return or fraudulent tax return filed with the IRS with intent to evade any tax. See section 6501(c)(1) of the Tax Code and section 301.6501(c)-1 of the Tax Regulations. "

They will spend any amount of money to prove you cheated them.Don't like to play with the tax people or figures. Look what happened to Big Al. No one could touch him, but the taxman.

And why is diesel more expensive anyway? Before GW Bush, it wasn't. Now it is.

GW's primary goal as President was to make Diesel more expensive!!! ;)

/ What's up with off road fuel prices?? #33
I explained that the station right down the road from me was selling on road; taxed diesel for $3.10 a gallon.
1*I'm rather confused as to how not paying roughly $0.40 cents (or so) in road tax and buying in somewhat of a bulk purchase warrants $0.30c more per gallon than taxed on road diesel at the pump.
2*I have to wonder about dyed #2 being more expensive than taxed, non-dyed #2. That just doesn't make sense to me. Anyone else notice anything like this? [/quote]
1*It don't warrant it.
2*No it don't make sense.

Just speculation on my part, based on casual observation.
I assume that sellers use a last-in, first-out (LIFO) pricing policy; i.e., they set their retail price based on the wholesale price of their latest inventory replenishment.
3*When wholesale fuel prices are increasing, high-volume sellers would increase their prices faster than low-volume sellers because they replenish their inventories more frequently.
Steve
3*I don't think that is the case here.

4*How much would it cost to hire a truck driver to drive to another jobber and deliver 700 gallons to you? Probably less than $280.00 (700 x .30).
4*Good idea to check out.

I bought some #2 dyed deisel to put into my fuel oil tank at the farm for the Oil heat last friday. I purchased at Saluda Oil Co. In Saluda SC. They sell fuel oil and deliver it. I have a tractor truck service business and do tires all there. I paid $2.58.
5*I wish i had more capacity than the 2 5 gallon cans as all the talk its going up makes me wish i had bought more like 75 gallons.
By the way those of you that say that the dyed is the same as the pump and is ULSD.
6*At least here in SC its not.
7*This is the second fuel dealer who has told me off-road is LSD.
8*The fuel oil receipt they gave me listed 10 gallons of #2 dyed Low Sulfer Deisel.
5*That's why I keep 2 or 3 extra 30 and 55 gallon drums around.
6*You must be in a 5 percent area.
7*but does he realy know?
8*They could be using up their old sales receipts.
9*All 3 suppliers I've used all said they had to move to ULSD the first of this last year.
These suppliers are either not wanting any orders less than a thousand gallons
10*or they are just flat stabbing customers on the price. Oh well, time to make another trip to fill the 100 gallon tank in the back of my truck with the "on road" fuel. I know it's costing me 4 cents a gallon more and I have to make a few trips, but
11*now it's the principle of the suppliers making a killing per gallon!
9*95 percent is now ULSD . They are fast running out of stored lsd.
10*They are gouging people .
11*What these type dealers are doing is they are pocketing almost all of the taxes .
Yeah, back when I bought my 550 gallon diesel tank and transfer pump (just had to get the cool meter with it too so I could see how much I was pumping out and would know about when I was empty) I was paying $0.76 cents a gallon for #2 off road.
12*Maybe my memory is bad, but it seemed like it saved me at least 50 cents a gallon, if not more, compared with filling 5 gallon cans at the gas station with on road diesel.
13*I guess that's my problem;
14*I can't figure out how it's the same price for non-taxed, dyed off road use only diesel as it is for diesel at the pump that has a road tax already added to the price.
15*It just doesn't add up in my mind.
12 *No your memory is fine.
13*No you don't have that problem.
14*You're correct it don't figure.
15*No it doesen't add up.

I agree with gouging .. I always blamed WVU for the price gouging I've worked in Morgantown for over 35 yrs .. I could drive to other parts of the state and prices would be 5-10 cents cheaper for gas or diesel .. One of our daughters lives in Martinsburg gas was always 5-10 cents cheaper plus I could buy off rd at the pumps ..Up here only 2 stations over in Pa sells off rd at the pumps and the last time I bought there they were 10 or 15 cents higher than here or Morgantown.
Either way the gas companies have us over a barrel (Theres with fuel).

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good fright (night) !!!!!!!!

Fuel prices jumped here a bunch today. Diesel is now $3.47 and regular unleaded is $2.99

i thought road diesel always went up in the winter due to the heating fuel oil demand (they are basically the same product)

so for every gal you sell to someone to burn in a furnace to heat there house is not an available gal to sell at the pump.... supply and demand....

but yes i agree with others that most "cities" significantly pad the price of the fuel because they can.

I live within 20 miles one of the largest refineries in the midwest, responsible for suppliing MO and IL with like 40% of its fuel.

and buying gas at a station (that gets its gas from that refinery) 10 miles away is 30 cents more than the same fuel that is at a small town 100 miles away? no way! there is no way you can move the fuel to the little tinny town for 30 cent cheaper than the major gas station that gets 2 delivery's a day and is 10 miles from the refinery.

the reality is, they charge more because they can!
