2016 Branson 4520
bought tractor new in 2016. and it's the noisyest clattering engine. since new. i know some engines clatter. and most are nice tight solid sounding engines, not mine. i think it's the timing of the injecter pump. but i don't have enough knowledge on the subject YET. anyone know what i'm talking about. been putting up with it for 6 years. plus when engine starts first starts cold, it coughs, and sputters, and pukes out white smoke for a few seconds, then smooths out, ever since new.

I suggest to check cylinder head valve rocker arm clearances. If noise persists check inj pump timing. If noise persists remove & pressure test injectors. Have you ever installed any injector cleaner in fuel tank?

And it would be nice to know what tractor and engine we’re talking about..

Ours has been clattering since Jimmy Carter was president. I guess it will be okay. I hope it will last.

Presumeably it's the 2016 Branson 4520 in his profile.

For the cold starting problems I'd make sure the heating system is working. I think it's an intake heater rather than glow plugs, but has the same function.

I did some tilling with the neighbor's new Kubota LX3301 and I thought....wow, this is a noisy little tractor. My NH TC33D was way quieter that than this thing is.

Well, IF it DOES have the 4520 has the Yanmar 4TNE-88 engine in it. And Yanmars are noisy engines by nature. But if it has the Kukje A2300, there is something wrong with it, these are very quiet engines by design.

when i say cold start, i don't mean cold outside. i mean first start of the day. don't matter what the temp. is it runs like crap when first started, then smooths out.

Even my A2300N4 is a little noisy on the cold startup, but quiets down after 30 sec or so.

Are the glow plugs/intake heater being used by the OP?

On my 2017 Branson you're supposed to turn the ignition on until the intake heating light goes out, then start it. If I forget and the engine is not hot, then it will be pretty unhappy when it starts.

My father had a Kubota 2550 which I believe had a Cummings engine... arguably the noisiest engine ever built. I sure was glad when he traded it for his 2800. He owned about 1/2 dozen Kubotas plus many other tractors throughout his life, yet that was the one he hated the worst.

Have you taken it to or contacted a dealer? First choice.
