heres an attached pic of a lever on a YM180 D thats located on the bottom right of the engine block; just below where the throttle shaft lever enters the engine block.

I think it has something to do with the governor; but not sure. The little metal block has 2 holes through it; at least one is threaded;

whats missing and how does it work?

Fuel shutoff valve? A cable is meant to run from the lever, through the slot, and back to the dash or below the dash?

With the engine running, carefully pull the lever towards the slot and the engine should stop.

My YM186D has one too. It's not attached to anything. I can't find mention of it in the parts manual. I don't think 'pull to kill engine' is mentioned in the Operation Manual, but that is sure what the second lever looks like.

My guess is they use the same governor on many models and 'pull to kill engine' isn't implemented on ours.

A couple of years ago I posted this picture with the same question. Nobody seemed to know.

Edit - added - I went through the Operation Manual. It clearly says pull the throttle to zero to shut off the engine. Nothing more.

I have to take sheet metal off my ym2002d to get a picture identical to the one posted except mine has a cable attached. Here is where it comes out on the dash. The half moon cover is home made to keep the water out of the cable when I rinse my tractor off.

Self destruct mechanism?

Seriously, winston, what does the cable at the dash attach too? Confused?

The cable attaches to the lever shown in the picture in post #1. It kills the engine.

My ym2020 has one also and I do use it to shut the tractor off, works great!

INTRESTING; and thats a better photo California, thanks; I'll have to test it; a "kill switch" would be good; (I read in the manual that pulling the compression lever to stop is not good for the engine.) Yes; NO mention, of it in 180 D the manual that I could find ... it looks like its on the Japanese models but why would they not installed on the US models?

Could you post a pic (Winston1) of the cable attaching to the metal block lever?

My Mitsubishi 180D has the same lever that was not connected.
Instead for the USA market a solinoid key operated shut off is installed.
Probably an OSHA or safety police requirement.
I attached a cable to my lever so that I now have a second shut off option.

This site is awesome. I was just working on my 186d because the throttle was sticking open, return spring up at lever wouldn't return throttle. Fixed it with a little blaster where the throttle lever enters the injector pump, but found this "other" lever, which appeared to be missing a cable, oh no! Better check TBN, and sure enough there it is, completely normal and fine for the 186d, with pics to boot.

I cleaned my linkage and it still wouldn't shut down reliably so I added a spring that pulls upward after the lever goes past center. That solved the problem.

A spring pulling forward would be better but I didn't see anything straight forward to attach it to; it would scrape on the side of the radiator and probably snag in brush.

Photo looking straight down.
