I just re read the entire 12 MIG welder thread started by Shield Arc, and to be honest, I cannot see what was the final straw that killed his enthusiasm. :confused3:

It seemed to be going better than normal and SA was about to crank it up on some thicker gauge material. I think this is what many of us wanted to see.

I just read a few of them 20-30 page long threads myself.

While there did seem to be quite a bit of disagreement, I didnt see what would have caused the tipping point?

His last 5 posts were all in the thread about HIM using the 120v welder. And it seemed (to me anyway) that he was somewhat impressed by how well it handled the 3/16" plate.

I was really looking forward to the thicker metal tests.

While I dont have a dog in the fight, and dont follow the welding threads much, I have NEVER been against using the 120v welders under the right circumstances. I have used a one several times. And while I own a 220v/225a machine myself, there are alot of times where I am not past 50% of its capability, in which I wouldnt have any reservations of using a 120v if it was all I had or could afford.

And I know it has been said several times on other threads, a good weld has more to do with the weldor and not the welder. At my previous job, we had a really nice miller 350p mig. And you would be surprised at some of the crap that was ran by that welder by other weldors.

probably the taste of crow.

Anyway the taste doesn't linger forever, a couple weeks and its all forgotten. Besides anybody who's been outspoken knows the taste of crow, its hardly bad company, sometimes par for the course. Just gotta take it in stride and keep movin'

I've eaten crow more times than I can count and I don't see it changing until I'm dead. But I've learned a good BBQ sauce and beer make it taste better! :licking::laughing:

His bad posts were cleaned up by the mods. He was cussing and telling everyone now he was done and that others would have to answer questions because he was leaving.

Maybe he got tired of Arcweld hanging onto his coattails, like a pesky little pup.

I'm with him. All them newbies with crappy equipment should shape up. At least I think so. I got a 220V big Hobart wire welder and I use gas. That's the good stuff ain't it? Few can match my mini-grinder skills.

The biggest problem with this outfit is the system administrator. Due to his bias, many posts go on forever. Turn off the profanity filter and many posts would boil down to two words. Maybe three. Okay, a half dozen tops if your mother or sister is involved.

Maybe the brain-to-keyboard disambiguation was just too time consuming.

This forum will be less, MUCH LESS, without his breadth of experience. Sometimes it is worth putting up with a bit of crustiness to gain the benefit of someone's experience. But, since it appears the majority wants everyone to "be nice" to everyone else, so be it. Personally, I think we have become a nation of weaklings.
