I just re read the entire 12 MIG welder thread started by Shield Arc, and to be honest, I cannot see what was the final straw that killed his enthusiasm. :confused3:
It seemed to be going better than normal and SA was about to crank it up on some thicker gauge material. I think this is what many of us wanted to see.
I just read a few of them 20-30 page long threads myself.
While there did seem to be quite a bit of disagreement, I didnt see what would have caused the tipping point?
His last 5 posts were all in the thread about HIM using the 120v welder. And it seemed (to me anyway) that he was somewhat impressed by how well it handled the 3/16" plate.
I was really looking forward to the thicker metal tests.
While I dont have a dog in the fight, and dont follow the welding threads much, I have NEVER been against using the 120v welders under the right circumstances. I have used a one several times. And while I own a 220v/225a machine myself, there are alot of times where I am not past 50% of its capability, in which I wouldnt have any reservations of using a 120v if it was all I had or could afford.
And I know it has been said several times on other threads, a good weld has more to do with the weldor and not the welder. At my previous job, we had a really nice miller 350p mig. And you would be surprised at some of the crap that was ran by that welder by other weldors.
