What\'s the easiest way to.....

What's the easiest way to remove 4x4 posts?
I have 31 that I'd like to replace so I can increase the height of my stockade fence from 6' to 9'. The posts that are in now are 36-42" deep. Thanks. G

Just pull the front loader up to the post and and yank them out with a chain!

WHarv had a pretty nifty idea/device Here (presuming I did that right...)

I thought about that, but my bucket doesn't have any hooks on it yet. How would you go about wrapping a chain around?
I don't want to do any damage to the FEL. G

Your link worked. That's a really cool idea, unfortunately I don't have that kind of hook set up. Any other suggestions? G

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

How 'bout a drawbar on the 3 point with a racket strap on the post.

Just back up to the post, wrap and secure with the strap ( a heavy one ) and wiggle the tractor forward and back while lifting up on the 3PH ???

Or...get chain hooks for the bucket /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Jinman did a funky pin attachment on his loader through the holes in the bucket mounts.

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

I used my ratchet tie down straps and the FEL to pull my old 4x4 closeline pole out of the ground and it was about that deep. I simply wrapped the strap around the post at the bottom a couple of times, passed the end over the loader and wrapped around the top a few times and secured to the other end and tighted. This allowed the bucket to hold the post so it didn't fall on my head either /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It worked perfect. Now if you have concrete it may be more difficult.

Good luck,

Might you have the link or a photo of this?

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

It might be time to add some hooks to your bucket. If not, you could wrap the chain all the way around the back and under the bucket then hook it on the cutting edge. From a safety standpoint, I'd use the FEL before the TPH for pulling posts. And for that many posts an investment in the right hooks and chain would be money well spent /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

RobS:

I'm don't like the 3pt. way much either. For one, I'm not that experienced yet (with the tractor) and second, I'd rather have the work in front of me.
I think your right in that I may need to update the FEL.
