Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

I don't have a link, but I can post a pic shortly that shows what he did.....

As for the 3PH idea...it was an option, but I didn't say it was the best option !!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The 3ph will only lift about 12-18" at a time....I really don't thin k you'll be shooting posts out over your head /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you do use the loader...the most important thing is keep the loader bucket and post tight together to prevent the post from whipping. Roll the bucket down, chain it off so the top edge of the bucket is tight to the post, then curl the bucket til the chain is tight and the lower edge is as close to the post as possible. Raise the loader arms to lift it out as you wiggle it. This will prevent any chance of the post jumping into your lap.

Got a chuckle from your last post...."I really don't think you'll be shooting posts out over your head".
Wish I could, the job would go a lot faster /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif!

Anyways, thanks for the details in positioning the FEL. That helps a great deal.

I'm looking forward to the photo. G

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

How soft is the ground they are in? I was able to remove a bunch of posts by just driving a couple spike nails into the post, and using the nails as a lifting point on the front edge of the FEL. Plucked them right out with no problem.

Actually, quite a few are on the "soft" side. That also sounds like it may be an option for me. G

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

I saw this in Progressive Farmer Magazine.

They took a piece of steel pipe large enough to go around the post your pulling. Cut it to about a foot in length and weld it to a plate of steel.

Bolt the plate of steel to the side of your FEL with the pipe in a verticle position.

You lower the pipe over the post, slide it down and tilt you bucket to lock in the post.

Lift up with you FEL and out comes the post.

You don't have to get out of the seat, and no chains to deal with.

I don't have one and I've never seen one in person, but it sure looked like a slick way to take out posts from the article.

Good Luck,
Eddie

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

Hey G, This sounds like a good excuse for yet another new implement (boom pole)chain around post through boom pole lift at three point out she comes, if it resists just go forward or backward to loosen in the hole ,you may what to preload your bucket with something first as a counter weight, Just a thought as to how I might try it, Have fun /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Mark S.

Re: What\'s the easiest way to.....

Put the spikes high enough on the post so that you can get under them with the bucket curled all the way back. This will help prevent any bending to the lip of the bucket.

I'm not to fond of the 3pt. as yet and would prefer to work with the work in front of me. I really have minimal experience with the tractor. G
