Kubota B7100
Can anyone tell me what year my B7100 is. The # stamped in the tranny below the metal plate is B7100HST-D62104. It has 4 wheel drive and a B1630 FEL. My local dealer does not seem to know, but want to know if it is the older model or the newer model when I order parts. I have e-mailed Kubota with no reply. I have seen other folks ask this question here so I thought I would give it a try. Thanks Mike

The easiest way to tell is by the shape of the front grill. Can you post a photo?

I don't know what year it would be, but I would think it would be the newer model because of the FEL it has. I bought a new 1995 B7100 that had a B1630C FEL.

I have the "newer" B7100 HST and the grill and loader number are the same the one in your pictures, although your paint job looks to like it is in much better shape, I'd say its the newer version

I was under the impression that only the newer series had the HST transmission. Another indicator is 6 lug front wheels.

Thanks for the replies. I have had my tractor only a few months, but I have been visiting this forum for quit a while before that. Lots of great infomation here. Wow! even got a reply from Bird. I will probably have more questions than answers, but hope to help others later on. When I bought my tractor it was sold as a 1981 year, but as I would keep reading things about it I became unsure if it was a late or early model. Sounds like I got the newer style tractor. It does have the six lugs on front wheels. I thought I read somewhere that if it had the old style hubs on the rear that it was an older model. Is that true or did they all come that way? Were the new style hubs cut in on a certain year or is it just a retro that became available? I don't have any impliments other than the FEL. I need to make a counterweight for the 3 pt hitch but am not sure how much weight I need to put back there. 300 or 400 lbs I am thinking. Does anyone have any ideas or maybe pictures of ones they use or have made? Mike

Can't comment on the hubs as mine is a '77. As for the counterweight, I have a small bucket and still need loaded tires plus some additional counterweight on the rear with sandy soil. I think that 300-400 lbs sounds reasonable.

I've always used a box blade for counterweight. A 4' should weigh around 300 lbs. and then you have a useful attachment instead of just a box of weight.

Ronjhall just posted a pic of his ballast box in this thread.

Mike, there are many helpful and knowledgeable Kubota dealers out there, but they may hard to find. Further Kubota.com is not very generous with information; they tell customers to go to the dealer for info, knowing full well that some dealers don't know the answers or don't care to help. I have complained many times about this to Kubota, but feel that my message has not yet been well understood.

The B7100 was very popular in the USA in the 80's, before it was replaced by the newer 200 series. However, Kubota elected to bring back the B7100 in the 90's because the 200 series wasn't selling well. They are easy to spot with their distinctive bulging grill. Mike, you are one of the lucky ones to get the latest version of a GREAT little workhorse. I hope that you enjoy this legendary machine.

Thanks lp333, Sounds like my tractor is a later model which is nice to find out. I would really like to know the year of it but maybe it doesn't matter. I have been using a case 580ck for about 10 years off and on. It is my brothers and he would let me use it. I have lots of douglas fir on my property and it is alot of fun digging out the stumps with it. I was surprised at how much work this little Kubota could do. I really like it and when I get a proper counterweight on it i know it will be even better. I don't have the cash for a boxscraper or a blade yet so I think I will make a weight for the 3 pt first. I also have 500ft of gravel/dirt road to maintain. My brother needed his backhoe back so I decide I needed to get a small tractor of my own. My Neighbor let me borrow his B2910 with a greatbend backhoe for a week and I was amazed at what it could do. Gets into small places and does everything it need. Would have liked to have one of those but couldn't afford the price of one. i looked for about 6 months for a tractor and finally found my tractor near portland Oregon. I looked at many before I found this one. Most of the ones I found for around 6k or 7k were gear drive and I wanted an hst tranny if possible. They were in bad shape but might have a brushhog which I don't need. I paid a little over 6k for mine, maybe to much but I could not seem to find anything in my area that would compare for what I Paid. I am happy with the deal so I guess the amount I paid was ok. Mike

How did you find the info. You sound pretty sure of the year. I was looking at Kubota.com and it looked to me that 1980 was the first year for the hst tranny. Now I'm really confuse on the year. Oh well

Mike, it should not be a 1979 model... unless the previous owner decided to replace the old grill used on the 80s models with the newer grill used by Kubota USA on all the B7100s sold in the 90s.

Hello All, Finally found out for sure what year my B7100 is. It was sold to the original owner on October 8,1991 in Oregon. I am in Washington and Bought it near Portland Oregon,so this all checks out. Left a message with my local dealers service manager with the serial number and he called me back in 5 min and gave me all the info. He could even tell me who bought it, their name and address. I had asked the same questions 3 times before but just didn't ask the right person. I told him I thought It came from a Nursery and he verified that was the original owner. So everyone who thought it was a newer model was right on the money. Last night I was searching the net and every time I saw a 90's model for sale I noticed it had the same ROPS install that I have. And the same Grill Like I have. Thanks for all your help. For anyone who has a tractor you don't know the year of, the service manager of your Kubota dealer would be one other source besides this great Forum. I put in a picture of my tractor. Thanks all. Mike

Thanks lp333. A friend gave me a 600lbs concrete counterweight to use on the 3 pt. I thought it would be to much but it works great. It was a night and day difference. My friend and I stood on the concrete block and it would still lift us and the front end was still firmly on the ground. That was just under 1000 lbs. The 600 lb counterweight makes the tractor steer great and is very stable. This is a picture of the weight and a picture of my backyard where I have been working. Oh and I finally got a reply to my email to Kabota that I sent a couple of months back. They also confirmed the year of my tractor as a 1991. Mike

Mike, you've got an impressive back yard. That concrete block is an excellent choice for a counterweight, given that it is almost identical to the mass of the backhoes used on the newer BX22, BX23 or BX24 tractors. What email address did you use to contact Kubota?
