What would you make out of a semi brake drum?

I scored a semi brake drum at the coop Tues and had a couple ideas of what Id like to put it to: 1) use it as the pedestal base for my bench grinder or 2) make a portable forage by filling it w/ refractory cement. Im sure it must be more useful than that....what would you use it for?

Maybe Ill broaden this question a bit...what sorts of great salvage stuff do you look for and what does it become after you find it? Im the type that brings back more from the dump than I take. Theres just too many great things that would be useful at some point.

Lots of good things, burn barrel, attachment weight, rear tractor weight

Sandblast down to bare metal and give it a real good paint job. Add some legs and you have a nice planter stand for your wife to use!!

They do make a good base for a pedestal grinder. And the local high school marching bands use them as percussion instruments- really! I'd like to mess around with metal sculpture. I've seen some great stuff, such as angels with car vent windows for wings, and a huge (almost life-size) dinosaur made of car parts. The head and jaws were made from oil pans.

I like the yard display stand idea

I had a friend in CT that dragged home a free 24' fiberglass boat hull. He smoothed up the inside, sunk it in the ground, and had a 24' boat-shaped swimming pool!

Also though I might use it as the base for a small portable welding table.

I have one that I use as a front weight on my tractor. I cut piece of metal mesh for the bottom, and bolted together. It doulbles as a place to put things.
