I now have a 1995 Farm Trac 555DTC 50hp 4x4. I have had a few problems with it including , but not limed to the bolts holding the carrier coming out 2 times and causing bearing, pinion and gear damage. I finally got that squared around by welding some stock to the bolt heads so they CANNOT turn. It is making another noise like a bad bearing somewhere.

Would you "bite the bullet" and split it for the 4th time in 7 years. The bearings I think are bad would run a few hundred. I would also have the extra work of grinding the stock off the bolt heads. There are also several other issues that don't affect overall performance that need to be fixed.

OR

Buy a new tractor I am looking at a LS U5020. Dealer offered us 9k trade in even with the new noise. Will split the difference with my dad as we went in together on this one and split costs. We can pay cash for the new tractor.

We are both leaning heavily towards letting the troubled Trac go as a new tractor with a warranty and no history would be nice.

I would dump the lemon and go with a new one. IMO that will be a better long term solution.

Personally I would let the Farm Trac go. 9k is a good offer especially since he knows about the issues with it. But here is my "test" for decisions like this: flilp a coin. No really...I'm not saying just go with the coin toss. Here is the deal. You make your choice and flip the coin. The second you look to see the results you'll know it in your gut if it's the right decision. That split second when you see it came up "fix the farm trac" you're gut will tell you if it's what you really want. You'll either be at peace or you'll be asking to go for two-out-of-three. Go with your gut.

I had a 2007 FarmTrac 535 with under 110 hours on it. The support is just not there for these tractors and One of the guys I had look at it said getting parts for them is a real bear. If you can afford to- say goodbye to the FarmTrac.

Parts are not an issue, at all. There is a place here in NY that can get any part needed as I have learned by him getting me a pinon and the 4x4 transfer case housing.

My gut tells me to get a new one (partially because I am sick and tired of working on it) and my brain tells me to take it apart again and fix it. If you add up all the issues it has spent close to a year out of the 7 down. That is partially because I take a while to fix stuff.
