What type of person impresses you most?

After over six decades of life and interacting with countless other humans, few of them have impressed me more than the individuals who are consistently dependable. Those who show up when they say they will, do what they say they will and do it right the first time....I'm sorry to say I have not had the pleasure of knowing more of them. Sadly, there are so many people in life who cannot show up on time or do things properly even when they have the ability to do so.

Let me give an example here: I have had the same AAA insurance agent for the past 11 years...about 7 months ago he said I would qualify for a premium discount on my homeowners policy when I got an appraisal stating my house qualified for a renovated home discount. Well, I forgot about sending him an appraisal copy six months ago...know what my agent did? Contacted my mortgage lender and got his own appraisal report and adjusted my policy that just came up for renewal. It's not so much the discount that matters, it's that my agent DID WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO and went beyond what was expected or required of him.

THAT is the type of person who impresses me. Tell us what type of person impresses you most.

Yes like you I prefer people (and son inlaws) that are on time dependable and I also value humility. Those that are constantly boasting that they have bigger or better get off on the wrong foot with me.

As for service , I would rather deal with people that under promise and over deliver, than those that over promise and under deliver......even if in the end it is the same result.

I agree 100% but the problem is society rewards the other type of behavior just as much of not more than the guy who keeps his word. I see it all the time in construction. We are up front about time lines with our customers and often we lose work because we are honest. Most competitors tell the customer what they want to hear but don't deliver, but they often still get the work.

In the 8th grade I had a teacher that taught us something I will never forget*...it was about things that can never be taken away from you (anyone)...

There were other things on the list but I remember (*regardless of CRS) that three of them were:
Family
Character
Integrity

I would agree with you JD, that "straight shooters", people that say what they mean and mean what they say, and do what they say are the people I admire the most. Your example of the insurance agent that was looking out for you was a perfect example. Right this moment I am waiting on the cable technician that was to arrive between the hours of 8 am and 12:00 Pm (noon), and it is 12:45 and he hasn't showed up yet....:confused3:

I'm impressed when a clerk admits they don't know the answer to a question but will find out.

I'm unimpressed with: made up answers, "No one makes that," " That's not what it is for," "That's not what you want," "There's no such thing," "We don't stock that because no one buys it," etc.
