I'm impressed by the person who freely and openly expresses their opinion and doesn't expect me to agree with it, who can hear mine and move on to something else without debate, who keeps their promises or doesn't make them.
So often I hear "why doesn't everyone strive for world peace?" I say "
Maybe they think they're doing what they can toward that already"
Maaaap, wrong answer and I'm now having to defend someone's(?) position on a topic I don't have much interest in. (no wheels, no engine, no varmint optic, ...)
Folks call me and ask for advice, supposedly to benefit from my experience. "well, revised state code says all underground cable must be in conduit & IMO that's not a big cost or complication, so I'd do that." For the following 30 min I'm berated for how 'stupid' the code is as if I wrote it myself and was responsible for every detail.
One learns to recognize these types after a while, but what stinks is to realize how many that you thought were 'friends' for years fit that profile and that others, in avoiding them, have avoided you as well. Best friends I have now are bank tellers, restaurant wait staff, and grocery cashiers.
Total strangers in my community treat one better than many who try to befriend you. It's those that hang their own baggage around your neck that irritate me most so you might say, however crudely, "no creo en amigos", ... but of course that doesn't mean y'all 'uns. :laughing: (Just keep your distance, ok?

)
btw: no rant intended ...
