I'm impressed by folks who can carry on a conversation without getting into politics or religion.

IMO, Nothing other than family matters affect our lives more than politics or the impact of politics in one way or another...it is rare to engage in political discussions without injecting biases...it is a natural condition...even those that can discuss politics in an unbiased, tactful manner are suppressing their inherent leanings...BTW...workplace politics are not the same as partisan politics but are still politics...

Regardless of the subject those that impresses me are individuals that think for themselves and don't just parrot what they have heard on "the news" etc...We mostly live in a preconceived, stereotypical world and it is rare to find those that think outside of the box and allow one to see things they may not have on ones own...

Not to worry, I have been "pruned" a few times too. Sometimes it is not so much what you say, as what others say in reaction to it.

I'm usually most impressed by people who aren't trying to impress me.

I appreciate people who let their accomplishments speak for themselves rather than trying to impress others with who they are and what they are. Hard working, honest, humble people seem to stand out from the crowd if you are able to recognize that type of person.

I'm always suspicious of anyone who feels they have to tell me how 'honest' they are or how they 'always do the right thing' or how 'principled' they are.
