One of the saddest things experienced was, I responded to an ad for a Trinitron TV that were at the time, in the early '80's the best display for home computers. I ended up at an apartment that they were selling everything, and desperate for money. I really wanted this TV.
As I was buying it, this little girl, I assume it was a daughter, said, "Please Don't sell the TV Daddy!" It broke my heart. I bought the TV any way at full asking price. And did most of my earlier work on that display before being able to afford getting a real composite monitor.
It still bothers me today though, that I took this away from her.
My buddy bought a Sony trinitron about a year before they came out with flat screen tv's. TV was a 36" and weighed about 10 lbs per inch of screen

He backed his truck right up to the front door. We muscled it up the 4ft worth of steps on his front porch and managed to get it part way across the living room before needing a rest.

So we set it on his coffee table. I looked at my buddy and asked if he thought his coffee table would support it.

He said he sure hope it would

After a couple minute breather, we muscled up what was left of our courage and ambition and got the TV into his entertainment center.

While sitting there we heard a loud "Crack"

The shelf that was supporting the TV cracked We ended up moving the TV back to the coffee table. Then cut some 2x4's to support the shelf in the entertainment center. Then, we moved the TV back till he could get a more sturdy entertainment center to replace the one he had.

My mom told me stories of going to a dance hall in Nebraska when she was young, and dancing several times to the Lawrence Welk band.

Lawrence welk band would come to wheeling WV every year and my mom would go.

The family would sit around the radio and watch it during the news. Kids programs were on Saturday mornings. Never heard of a TV until i was about 8-10.

I can still remember the first TV I ever saw; it was in 1951, and it was in a bar. I couldn't go in the bar, but I watched it through a window in the front. It was a Hopalong Cassidy Western. I was only moderately impressed.
