What TV did you watch as a kid?

I remember when the remote was me.

The early remotes would strike bars that were made to vibrate at very specific frequencies. The TV would have a set of tuning fork type momentary switches. The sound waves from the remote would cause a sympathetic vibration in the tuning fork switches in the TV. No batteries needed.

Anyone recall the first TV remotes? I think it was a Zenith; the remote was activated by a device that sent out sonic signals. You could jangle your car keys and it would change the channels!

Wasn't it called Space Command or something like that? My aunt had one when I was in my early teens. As I recall the volume remote only had something like 4 steps and only went in one way. To turn it down you had to step the volume up several times until it cycled around.

I ever knew about Combat! until about 6-7 years ago. I've since watched them all. Very good.

I forgot Lawrence Well...

Grandma would let us stay up if we we could be quiet and Enjoy the program and we were.

I did ask her if she had Tired Blood once as Geritol sponsored the program...

My mom told me stories of going to a dance hall in Nebraska when she was young, and dancing several times to the Lawrence Welk band.

If no one has ever watched that TV show Combat! it's worth the time. Great storylines and cast.

Vic Morrow and Rick Jason were the two lead characters. I could watch that show for hours. Probably plays on my feelings about my dad in WWII, although he was in the Pacific.
