I'm in a 10,000 pop town. Can't get too much unless I drive an hour to the major metro areas. eBay and mail order stuff is sometimes the best/fastest way to get something. Or make due with what you have on hand or easily accessible.

on the other hand.. you get to live in a nice cozy small town environment.

many would envy that!

Oh trust me...I know! The lack of man shopping is the only thing that bugs me.

We moved here to a 17 acre property just 6 miles from town. Far enough that riff raff stays away and close enough for work/groceries.

We came from a city of 1 million people, hideous traffic congestion, and a 500 sq ft apartment. Then we bought this 17 acre, 2200 sq ft house for less than a 500 sq ft condo back in Alberta.

I do what I want when I want...but I could use more land!

I hear ya on the more land.

I'd like to get the property next to me as well. could head toward self sufficiency and even go off grid if the 'stuff' ever hit the fan.

best of luck to the both of us!

A trick you might try is to take some filler metal, either a welding rod with the flux removed, or other metal, then while holding the filler metal flat on the seam you want to weld weave you arc back and forth over it, the filler metal will absorb some of the heat so you won't burn through. either that or cut a flat piece of steel and put in back of the joint as a backing strip. With a name like sparrky, I have been at welding for quite a while.

43 years self employed welder. :>) On my business card, I put "welding everything but the crack of dawn"
