I think it is a depth gauge for checking concrete thickness as it is poured and before final finishing. Used on wide floors so you don't thin it out in the middle. Just turn the piece to the desired thickness and poke it in. The cone on the end is a little unusual but is probably intended to work the rocks in the concrete out of the way so the inspector gets a true reading.

Is there any history that may give us a clue?

I found this at a flea market.

It is about 18 in long.

The cone end spins freely, and it appears to sit in a saddle of some kind.

As you turn the handle the rod and cone assembly moves fwd.

It looks to me like the lugs on opposing sides of the spindle part are supposed to hold it into >a missing part< where the "cone" can be screwed down into whatever...? possibly the same "missing part" would hold the "whatever"?

The trunnion part I believe sits in a saddle of another part to push on something.

Whether it is auto related , or gas line, or part of a flare tool, I don't know.

I only paid $2 for it. Thought it was a dent puller.
