Someone should start a thread how to drive in the winter. Consider it a public service meme, Or I'll just make it another one of my peeves. Why are there dozens of cars in the ditch especially in somewhat hazardous early winter weather? Why don't they teach drivers Ed in the winter? Why do some folks think if the speed limit is posted at 55 they need to go 60+ in a white out blizzard? Meanwhile I'm white knuckling it pushing 45 with a 3/4 ton 4x4. is it Cuz they have AWD? Rants over and unfortunately if you are one of the yahoos that passed me only to end up in the ditch a mile later im not nice enough to pull you out.

Funny you should mention that. I live a couple of hundred feet from a T intersection on a road that serves several housing developments in the area. Today, we got our first real snow storm and with it some really slick roads. So, you can just about bet some idiot that has forgotten how to or never leaned to slow the F down when it's slippery, is going to slide through the intersection and through the nice 6' tall wooden panel fence in the neighbor's back yard, and I was not disappointed. Shortly there after, three more slide off at differing places, but no one hits anyone else. So the county sheriff and tow truck arrive and while he is setting there with his lights flashing, two more go into the bean field and one into another neighbor's yard.
I think that fence has gotten knocked down every year since it was put up about 10 years ago. Somehow though, they always manage to dodge the double posted traffic sign with the double arrow on it.
To the west a mile or so is a 90° right turn where another fool has tried to maintain a nice wrought iron looking fence for many years. About three years ago he gave up and put a line of boulders in front of where the fence was, and now all he may have to do in the spring is roll a few of them back into place.

eventually had to Get the wrecker with a dolly to successfully damage free tow it as I had no idea nor did my dispatch know how to override it into neutral, the cars owner was on the scene and understandably didn't fully appreciate my skills of dragging it up on the bed and eventually shaking it off in park forewarning him the process I was somewhat proficient at may take off his lower valiance and rear bumper plus possibly chipping his paint on other components. For some reason he refused to sign a damage waiver. Lol

with bluetooth and steering wheel controls and auto hvac, i almost never touch my touch screens anymore, what's all this adjusting your doing?

Normally I have the gauges up on the screen, wanting to see temps and pressures.

The things I would like to adjust are (in no particular order) the heated steering wheel, the heater temperature, radio stations, defroster, and other stuff often only doable through the touch screen.

Okay, some vehicles are more cooperative than others, but there's always something that requires me to take my eyes off the road and use the damn screens. Had an Audi Q5 for a bit and it had a button for the heated 'wheel right on the steering wheel. Brilliant! But anything radio related was a chore and a half using the touch screen.

Now, I can understand that it's no big deal if frequently sitting at stoplights with plenty of time to fiddle with a screen, but it's different when driving (perhaps a bit fast) on twisty 2-lane roads. Then a touch screen is all but unusable.

If it wasn't for having to drive slowly on the 1/4-mile driveway and able to mess with the screen during that time, I'd be screwed.

I have a RAM truck with that stupid shifter that looks like a volume knob. If there's just one thing that prevents me from buying another RAM truck, that will be it.

I somehow went my entire life until getting this truck, with never once accidentally slamming a moving vehicle into park, or reversing directions. But I must've done it a dozen times in the first month of owning this one, due to the stupid control, and still manage to do it a few times per year while maneuvering trailers, etc. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

On your point, I also fight with the thing each time I need to put it in neutral for working on it. I never remember exactly how I managed to do it the prior time, as I own and work on too many vehicles to remember the unique sequence for this one alone. Center console and steering column shift levers have worked flawlessly for more than 100 years, I am not sure why these guys thought it would be a good idea to ditch that, and replace it with what appears to be a second radio volume knob... right next to the actual radio volume knob.

For years I was choosing my truck brands by which still offered manual transmission and manual-lever transfer case. Ironically, that's how I landed on Dodge/Ram in the first place, moving to them from Chevy, when Chevy discontinued manual transmission on V8 Quad Cabs, but Dodge continued offering it. Now, they've all abandoned that, and I can't think of any customer ever praising that decision.

I looked at new Ford SUVs. Same crap.
Reason I'm looking at the new Mazda CX90 other than Ford's recent quality issues. How the mechanism works under the trim I don't care. I want and am comfortable with a shifter that makes it almost idiot proof (I have my moments) obvious which gear I'm in. A spiny dial don't cut it.

At one point I started making a list of all the part numbers for converting the dial-a-gear setup to a floor shifter in a '14 1500 I had, which was my first experience with that miserable idea.

The shifts would've still been actuated by wire, but at least I wouldn't have to look at the dial, just reach for a shifter lever in normal fashion. Sold that one before getting around to converting it.

"Cigarette lighter adapters" which don't work well in any cigarette lighter I've ever had. That's really a pain right now as my power is out and I was trying to use my inverter; which can't seem to connect well enough to even charge my phone.

4wd floor shifting mechanism like this? apologize for blowing hard and sounding like a broken record but way back in 2016 I looked for months before I bought my
d-max a few hundred miles away at an out of state dealership, I haven't priced one out recently cuz I'll probably end up driving this into the ground but I don't think GM makes them anymore either. Like a few others I'd take a manual trans in a second for a option handicapped full size 3/4 ton or larger towing machine, even over my automatic Allison. The truck I currently own has never "peeved me off" either, yet lol

Yep. Had the same setup on every truck I owned for nearly 30 years, but now they're unavailable in most vehicles. It'd be one thing if market demand forced vehicle manufacturers this way, we can blame market demand for auto transmission. But I've never heard of ANYONE preferring a push-button transfer case over a manual lever with instant responsiveness and absolute certainty it's engaged.
