You guys are so old-fashioned. Just because your parents didn't have electrically-operated hatches and tailgates doesn't mean YOU shouldn't have them. C'mon, get with the times!

I have it and boy does it play havoc when the dog is in back.

Has he figured out how to open it?
Just her moving around while it's closing is enough to get it to reopen.
I have to wait until it is fully closed and I hear the click.

Maybe but the problem I have with new technology things is a person who's somewhat handy but has no idea how to diagnose or backwoods hack a circuit board together to make it work long enough to either replace it or fix it yourself. My occasional hack methods of fixing mechanically operated things with zip ties and self tappers is useless on modern tech in comparison I could hack together a mechanical handle operated tailgate mechanism to make it work temporarily which on occasion turns into a permanent repair/hack. One with push buttons, solenoids, actuators I'd just ratchet eat het strap it til I fix it more permanently I guess.also can only imagine all the contaminants that will get in your fuel tank with this capless fuel fill. Unless someone shows me otherwise I'll stick with vehicles with screw on fill caps. If capless was better at keeping contaminants out of your fuel tank wouldn't every manufacturer use them?

Capless, not Crapless. Competition has forced manufacturers to build products that would last too long, if it weren't for the peripheral goodies that will cause the item to be a major PITA to keep on fixing, and cause said product to be discarded long before its primary function is worn out. "Officially" the vehicle will last for zillions of miles and years, realistically it is headed for the junk heap in a decade or so because the superfluous and nonessential features have Crapped out too many times. They still sneak planned obsolescence in there somehow, while charging us more for it.

They call them "capless" only because you don't have the gas cap. They still need to seal the fill tube or the evap system won't work. On the inside there is a door that is held shut by a spring. When you insert the gas nozzle it pushes that door open so that you can fill it. When the nozzle is pulled out, the door seals shut again. Only thing I've ever read that goes wrong with them is that if you do get an EVAP code, the first thing you should do is to clean the inside edge of the fill tube that the door seals up against. No other issues that I have seen/read. I've had it on my last 2 trucks and I have never had an evap code thrown and thus never had to do the cleaning.

Or just buy a new screw on cap at the auto parts store. Curious if any studies were ever performed comparing capless to screw on fuel fills, if one allowed more contaminants over a period of time provided both worked as designed initially. One thing new car shopping has definitely made me peeve more than usual.

Might be a good idea for an aftermarket company to design and sell a screw on cap system to install on/ replace your capless system. Id probably buy it after the first evap code.

Never had an issue with either truck (one being my current one). Ford has been using the capless system since at least 2010 on the F150s that I know for sure. Never seen any kind of dirt by the door inside the tube in all the years that I have owned them and I've driven on a lot of dirt/dusty roads. Matter of fact, the truck bed with a cover on it gets all the dirt and dust. I was skeptical at first as well but, I've had more trouble with gas caps than I have had with the capless.
