What is some of your Pet Peeve's

Another pet peeve, a$$hats that dump their ashtrays full of cigarette butts out in a parking lot, right where you have to step out of your vehicle.

I didn’t think anyone used ashtrays in cars anymore?

^^^^^
That's the result of charging people to get rid of their trash.
Should it be free?

Not exactly "free", but scheduled large item pickup is included in our monthly or quarterly pricing, here. I'd suspect it's probably by law, as we independently schedule our own haulers, and every last one of them includes "free" large item pick-up.

When I had a mattress to dispose of last month, I just called their office, and they told me which day to leave it at the end of the driveway. They picked it up the following day. No extra charge.

It completely removes any incentive to dispose of it by nefarious means, as it's both more convenient and already covered in your regular residential service, to have the trash hauler pick it up from your house.

But in defense of Californians, I suspect most mattresses found on the roadside are not the result of littering, but rather the result of DIY rooftop movers gone wrong.

My city also has "big trash" pickup and you schedule it online. Most of the stuff I put out there is taken by roadside shoppers or scrappers before the City can get to it. In fact, most of the time, I just put stuff out there without scheduling a pick up and it's gone in a day or two. Getting ready to put a microwave out and see what happens.

I would rather tbat, than have somebody dump their refrigerator, mattress, tires, or whatever so that I need to pay to get rid of it.
I picked up 3 tires off my mother's property this spring. It cost me 12$/tire to get rid of them. Is there any wonder somebody dumped them instead?

All I know is, cutting a car tire up into small enough pieces to fit in a trash bag ain't easy. Not that I've ever done it....

I live in an extremely red area, and I have to take my garbage to the dump ("recycling center") because there is no trash pickup. When it comes to the dumpsters, the attendants at the dump are realists, not flakes. You can't put a large tire in the dumpsters, but they don't care about the little things. I once told them somebody had put lawnmower batteries in the dumpster, and they had no problem with it.

As a recycling center, this place scores zero. I have seen really nice furniture there, and in the metal area, I've seen great tool boxes, steel cabinets, and even a Workmate. You're not allowed to "scavenge," so the furniture all goes in the landfill, and the metal stuff get melted down.

I managed to give one of the attendants a concrete bird bath once, however.
