What is a tire, wheel, rim?

It is a good thing I understand Brit to a certain extent. I also can usually understand other peoples misspelling.

You probably understand "Brit" more than you imagine... Canada spells more British than your neighbour to the South.

It may not be correct but I tend to think of a tire as the rubber part, a rim as the metal part and a wheel as the entire assembly ....

My understanding of it is that the tyre is what makes contact with the ground. If you think of an old wooden spoked wagon wheel, the iron hoop around the edge was referred to as the tyre.

Alot of tractors have 2-piece real wheels.

When I finally found some more aggressive front tires for my older B series...I bought a second set of wheels/rims that are two piece...had to use tubes but was able to mount the tires myself with just a simple clamp made with all thread...

Though this may be the case, the OP used a picture of a rubber tire and a metal "rim" - he was not asking about old-time wooden wheels, bicycles, solid wheels, metal wheels or many of the other types of things that have been put on vehicles over the years.

With his pictures in mind, I still think of the rubber as the tire, the metal part as the rim and the whole assembly as the wheel.
