I've been using iGoogle, but it is going away on November 1. I hate to lose it since I set it up with gadgets and feeds for news, weather, business, sports, entertainment, etc., like a newspaper. It also makes if fast to get to mail and YouTube.

Do you have a home page portal that you recommend?

Thanks.

Chrome. Had some troubles with IE that were solved by going to Chrome.

I don't use one. I go to news, weather, etc. sites when I want that information.

In the same boat as OP, I relied heavily on igoogle. Haven't found a good replacement yet

I have used MyWay My Way - Our Mission for years. Clean and very "customizable". I thought I might switch to iGoogle, but then they pulled the plug on it.

I use FireFox and have 5 or 6 TABS and set them as my HOMEPAGE so I get all the sites I visit each time I open up.

Yahoo-Mail, Craigslist, Scottrade, Facebook, TBN :D and Forestry-Forum. This way I have all the tabs open that I look for and at all the time. After I'm done with yahoo-mail I switch and click the Finance tab on the Yahoo Bar at top.

Yeah, igoogle was great! I am using the awesome new tab page which is okay, but doesn't give me everything Igoogle did. Yahoo mypage or whatever its called is horrible and pointless to me.

Of late I've had Chrome open to the New Tab screen though I've also been known to have it open to MSN or even just Google.

Not sure if a home page is relevant anymore. Found this article with some suggestions...

Hadn't realized they were killing it, guess it's been a long time since I used it.

Chrome works good for me, was using firefox until it started acting up and reloading it didnt help. I never had any luck with IE it always seemed slow but there are some sites that only IE seem to work with, my wife has to use it to print her pay stub.

Used IE, Mozilla, SeaMonkey and the last few years Firefox. With Firefox you can set it up anyway you want.

FireFox changed their default font/zoom level a little while ago. It's been a pain to keep it at the level I wanted so I switched to Chrome. What I don't like about Chrome is how easy it is for malware to infest it. Conduit search engine comes to mind. I think I have it licked but I shouldn't have had to take the steps I did to banish it.

The wife loves Yahoo. I got tired of having to enter my password every time I turn around and the movie theaters kept disappearing along with my Dow Jones picks.

I liked igoogle for the bookmark feature. You can still get to your bookmarks but I don't like the way they are displayed.

I have been trying to find a simple page like igoogle for a while. Just found ighome.com last week and like it so far. The only reason I ever ended up on Google was that Yahoo kept changing the page layout all the time. With ighome I can set my page up with the same gadgets. It also allows you to select what search engine to use. I wonder if Google thought of that when decided to shut off Igoogle? I am trying the different search engines now.

Thanks for your suggestions. I already had a Yahoo page from years ago, so took a look at their new MyYahoo. Not as slick as iGoogle, but it did have an import feature to allow you to import all of your gadgets and settings from iGoogle. I tried it, and it worked, so I'll use this as my portal until I find something else. I'll be looking into your suggestion of ighome.com and also see what Bing's offering looks like.

Interesting comments. I didn't know what an "internet portal" was. I'm still not real clear on it.

I use Chrome for web browsing.
Thuderbird for email
Skype for chat
Gravity for Usenet
iTunes for music
AVG for anti-virus
Spyhunter for spyware

That pretty much covers internet stuff, except for downloading every A/V codec in sight. For instance, the County Surveyor's GIS database requires an add-in from Adobe to work that pretty much takes over the browser window. I have AVG Secure Search set up as the default search engine.

Lots of confusion between "portal" and "browser" on this thread.

Here is a pretty good definition of "portal" and some choices, if you want a portal. I never saw the point.
