stump puling.
friggin hybrid poplars.
used GC1725M to dig out roots and most dug and pulled out (using GC2400) hard.
2 stumps were 7-8" diameter, one was 5", and other was 4".
think they would be easy right? not.
biggest issue was when I felled them I cut too low as was giving away for sawmill and some for firewood. should have cut at 4 ft height.
first up was the 8" diameter one. it had a 7" root going close to straight out of stump into hillside (meaning UNDER my septic field) and was almost 2 feet deep to start with. took 20 minutes to dig away enough to hit with chainsaw. hole here about 8ft diameter and 3ft deep.

second stump, 6-7" diameter has much smaller roots but a ton more of them. pulled approx 10 feet of one out with it, other 2-4 feet. hole there about 12 feet diameter and maybe 2ft deep.

third was the 4" one.
simple used backhoe never touched with chain. just had to dig about 2 ft although diameter was only maybe 4ft.
fourth up was a 5" or so stump with lilacs 2ft away on both sides. hope I didn't hurt lilacs, did hit some of their roots.
digging this one not too bad, sandy soil, but pulling it out was PITA as it wanted to roll instead of get pulled.
the 2 15-20" spruce and the 45" poplar stumps...gonna get cut to the ground and use a drill to introduce the stump to kerosene. who knows what will end up happening after that introduction. maybe the 2 will act all cold towards each other, maybe the relationship will heat up. time will tell...
tractor wise the old GC2400 worked like a champ. the first 2 on field/lawn I pulled in 2wd. the ag tires spun 1/8 turn lugs dug in and either stump came out or front end lifted 4" in the air and everything just stopped. full throttle could not get to spin or move. engine was grunting hard. on the 4th was sandy soil so did use 4wd and just hit diff lock when ready to yank out once . 3 spin marks in the soil
the GC1725M had power but on sod I really prefer the stabilizer pads (flip type) the GC1710 had. I've pulled lot of roots with that and had much better hold on sod then the u-shaped pads the GC1725M has.
oh well swapped a service for use of backhoe on it, and can use any time I want so I ain't complaining.
did find (during service few days ago) seeping input shaft seal (behind fan) on a tractor with only 121 hours on it. he's gonna call dealer monday, I verified the seep today. I cleaned area when servicing, ran few hours today, glistening film around seal where I cleaned. lets see if they will honor warranty.
anyways...next up is to hook chains to some roots in holes and go for a ride in the GC2400...
