I need a JD tech saavy person to tell me how JD gets those extra 3 HP out of a 4410. My bet is the fuel injection system puts a bit more fuel in the cylinder. But maybe it has a tiny bit more compression. Not sure, just wondering? Is there an easy (not costly) part you can switch to or upgrade?

Thanks for any help here,
Kyle

Well... I'm certainly no JD savvy tech but here goes... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Right off the bat... you have more engine displacement in the 4410 vs 4310 (88mm bore vs. 84mm)

So... more cid (101 vs 91)will normally give you more hp, torque... and if you still want more... then you can turn up the injection pump to dump more fuel but now you have to dissipate the extra heat the added hp will produce... so more output from the water pump, larger oil pan reservoir, engine oil cooler, and larger radiator are a few things to keep the heat under control...

$1800 for 3 horsepower, that's a bit much isn't it? I just bought a 4310 because I thought I'd rather have the 4 in 1 bucket on the loader instead of the extra power. I haven't had a chance yet to do anything more serious than mowing, so it's hard to tell yet if I made the right choice. Have you found you need more power in your 4310?

Thanks John, you are right. I don't know why I was thinking they were the same. Maybe too much shopping and comparing all makes. There is no replacement for displacement. #1 rule of modern internal combustion engines. I noticed that the orange websight compares many of their tractors to JD, but if you read between the lines, orange's HP is not backed by cubic inches so maybe that's why they don't readily post torque numbers(mainly on bigger tractors). JD does.

Hi Kyle, if your talking orange as in Kubota, typically the Kubotas have higher displacement. The L48 vs JD 110, is 148 cu. in. vs 121.7 cu in. respectively. The Kubota L 4630, L4330 134.1 cu. in. vs 121.7 cu. in. on the JD 4610/4510, the 4710 has a 133.6 cu. in. engine. According to the JD brochure, the 4310 and 4410 both have a 91.3 cu. in. engine while the smallest that Kubota makes in the Grand L's is 91.5 cu. in. on the L3130. The next size up, the L3430 has a 100.5 cu. in., the L3830, 113.3 cu. in. So actually, the Kubotas tend to go with a larger displacement then their JD counterparts. An example of torque, the Kubota L4630 has 112 ft lbs @ 1500 RPM and 90 ft lbs at rated engine speed versus 78.7 ft lbs and 86.3 ft lbs @ rated engine speed on the JD 4610 and 4710 respectively. Having said that, I would not be too quick to judge an engine by displacement. Both Kubota and Yanmar build excellent diesels.

Your rule about displacement never applied to my 93 Ford 7.3L diesel, the little Cummins 5.9L dwarfs it in torque and equals it in HP. Rat...

Mostly due to Inline vs V, but the 6 has a larger displacement per cylinder, doesn't it?

I don't know about that. Things changed considerably when it got a turbo charger and now with the Powerstroke, its pretty much right there or beyond. Rumours are though that Ford will be changing from the Powerstroke to another diesel in the near future. One with emissions compliance well into the future. Having time with both the Cummins and the Powerstroke, they are both great. Rat...

As far as I know, Navistar will be supplying the new 6.0 liter PSD to Ford for quite a while. It is mated to the new 5 speed auto (5R110).

The Cummins engine is easier and cheaper to get HP and torque out of. I have only been able to get 450 RWHP w/ help from LPG injection out of my PSD where some of my buddies are getting 500+ Hp on just #2 diesel.

Naturally I meant with natural aspiration. Anyone knows that you can stuff an intake plenum and get more HP and torque. But it costs mo' money and generally speaking more maintenance with less dependability. I know, I have experience with turbos and blowers on gas and diesels. For example the top fuel guys feel lucky to make it 1/4 mile. The one's with the big bucks do it consistently. How many tractor pulls have you seen where something goes pop. If you have plenty of cash, and thats your cup of tea, run with it.
The L3130 was the Kubota I nearly bought. It compared the best to the JD 4130. It did weigh a few hundred lbs more which is good in my book. But, the price quoted was quite a bit more. Over $1400 more comparing apples to apples. I know its a great tractor. The kind you could keep for decades if you take care of it. More than price, I prefered the JD dealer and his proximity than the Kubota dealer. I can drive my tractor to my dealer in 10 minutes (3 miles).
Lucky me,
Thanks guys...Kyle

Nothing wrong with that reasoning Kyle, have a blast with the new 4310, I see little reason to pick the 4410 over it either, particularly if it is less costly allowing further development of implements to your inventory, ie, more toys. Rat...
