What else do you do with forks besides lift pallets?

This has really turned into an informative thread. Pallets seem like the last thing you use forks for.

I use mine on the jobsite to move lumber closer to where it will be used

My biggest use is for firewood - hauling the bucked logs in, holding the logs for cutting up off the ground, and then bringing the wood to my basement in the winter. But I find all sorts of things to lift with them - since I use them on the 3 pt i put various modified wood crates to use as carryalls. Just the other day I lifted my dump rake and supported it while I pulled the wheel and greased and tightened the bearing. I do not know how I got by without them. Oh yes - once in a while I move a skid.

I realize this is an old thread, but no reason to start a new one. A heavy set of forks can pop very large rocks out of the ground with minimal ground disturbance! And then can move the rock to the location of your choosing!

Having a grapple reduces the possible uses for forks, but they are still useful. I use mine for unloading pallets, moving stumps, moving large rocks, unloading stuff off the truck, and if you don't have a grapple they are decent at moving brush.

Great picture and that's a good use for forks. I'm on the lookout for a used set now.

Must have missed this one during plow season. I U-bolt a 12'-16' 4x4 onto one tine and it makes a great boom pole for small trusses or lighter hanging. I use a jet sled to blow wood chips into and chain it onto the forks, then can cart 2-3 bucketloads at a time, in real time, without having all the chips lost/blown/spread. I put chain hooks on it, and its a much better implement shuttle set-up than chains on the bucket, or using pallets. I intended to "palletize" everything, but they are more trouble than help as they age. Oh right--you can unload packaged goods on pallets with them too!

Used ours today to lift/slide our new outdoor wood boiler into place.
I have one homemade fork frame and three or four combinations of forks, lifting bars etc that pins onto the frame. Today the forks were 14" long (normally used to carry frames of firewood) yesterday they were 8' long when I wanted to lift the raft out of the lake. Tomorrow I will have the 3' forks on for moving logs around.
I also have the ability to slide a 2" draw bar into the frame. One draw bar is five feet long with lift hooks on the end for setting heavy stuff in place....another has a winch on it.
