What do you use your FEL for?

Here's one I haven't seen yet. I used my FEL to dig up our potato patch. Using the toothbar I pulled up a section, raised the bucket, and we picked out the potatoes. Then I dumped the dirt, and moved forward for the next bite. Worked slicker than roller skates on an ice rink.

It also comes in handy to move the tractor when you get stuck in multiple snow drifts (I know, I don't learn too fast).

I use it to carry firewood to the house too.

It is the single most useful attachment on the tractor, well for me anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Probably more of this time came from using the FEL than it did from operating the BH and mowing put together.

I'm getting my Kubota L4400 this weekend. I debated about getting the FEL. My wife was against it. She advised getting one later if there was a _need_ for it. And initially I agreed. But then I realized that there would be a lot of things I could do with it that really didn't qualify as 'needs' but that would still be beneficial.

But here is the logic that sold me, and my wife on the FEL: If I get the tractor without it, then the tractor is basically a mower (which is the main reason I'm gettting it) and for the most part, that's all. And that is one expensive mower. But, if you add the FEL the tractors utility is greatly expanded and thus its value.

I am already making a long list of things to do with it. I have a bunch of large rocks (cleared from fields many, many years ago by hand) that I want to use for a large ring to have bon fires in. They are not accessible by truck, but I can get to them with the tractor and haul them out with the loader. That will make my wife very happy.

I think some teeth and some pallet forks will expand utility even more....and on it goes.

Here is a use I did not see above.
when re-roofing my home I used the FEL to raise the shingles up to the roof. A real back saver there.

It’s my tool box, when working around the property I load what ever I may need in the bucket and I’m off.

Got a metal building piled full of a bunch of stuff that I'm wanting to clear out a space in and put in a Heater and AC.

I put all this stuff on pallets to keep it up off the dirt floor.
The pallets are wall to wall from side to side and front to back.IE the palllets became the floor.
For once I accidentally did something that will be to my benefit.
This project will require the feel and forks to move out the loaded pallets and to haul in dirt to raise the floor in the cleared out space above the surrounding ground level.

My wife and I used to weasel out of whose turn it was to go down to the road and get the Sunday paper. One Sunday shortly after getting the fel, I drove down with the tractor, brought the paper back in the fel, lifted the fel to its full height for dramatic effect, and dropped the paper over the back fence at my wife's feet. This transparent attempt at demonstrating how useful a fel is did not seem to work.

A couple of things that did work were 1) skimming off sod for a garden and 2) using the bucket to mix concrete.

"First thing I tried upon delivery was to smash some beer cans ... a success!!! "

Works wonders on old appliances.. you can fit the pieces in a regular trash can after your done.

Steer feed - 600lbs/day
Harvest - Potatoes & Sweet Corn
Loading Manure
Fence Post, Tools, Supplies
Hay Bales(Round & Square)

I've also used the FEL as a portable deer stand.. made a seat that fits in the bucket when fully raised.. bring 6ft step ladder.. back up in the bushes.. raise the FEL. I use a piece of carpet on the bottom of the FEL to muffle anything dropped. You can camo the tractor w/ a camo sheet. Easy to bring the game home.

I've used mine for several of the posts in here (haul tools, blade, etc.). Have also used for lifting the riding mower, with a logging chain through the frame attached to the bucket, for sharpening the blades and cleaning. Loading said riding mower on trailer when carb blew. Also used as a jack to lift tractor front tires off the ground and remove rt front tire to fix a flat. Immediately placed car jacks under front axle once in the air and only lifted just high enough to get tire off.

Accidental uses: emergency brake when bush hogging and bucket is too low to the ground. Trailer jack removal - thought I had clearance to get around my 16' trailer but clipped the jack with the bucket /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Non-clearance indicator - mostly for working in the woods which leads to the final accidental usage: tree scraper - similar to a bear scratching a tree to mark his territoy. However mine is usually from being in a hurry, poor judgement and/or inattention.
