Always like those... had a midnight blue 68 XL with 390 and zero issues

Than expect to be doing headgaskets.

I cannot understand why Subaru insists on continuing to build flat-4 engines. This nonsense of keeping the weight low is complete fluff. The engines are not powerful, are known for having several possible issues - including high oil consumption and headgasket failure - and are more difficult to work on. The CVT transmission, while efficient, is not durable and I do not like the feel or drone. The cars themselves are just OK. They feel cheaply made with thin metal doors and roofs, despite Subaru trying to market how safe they are. However, the Outback and Forester are roomy, fuel efficient, have a good AWD system, and are value priced. I guess that's why people like them.

Outback and Forester are just about all we see.

I looked at buying an Outback. I found it to be a small overrated and overpriced SUV.
Lots of other options that fit my needs.

Guy I worked with bought a brand new Outback in 2015. He complained of excess oil consumption. Mileage wasn't that good.

We have a 2014 Outback purchased new as one of our company cars. Fuel economy has been great, in my opinion, for a large wagon with AWD. The car has 140k on it and has a new engine in it, and the first engine needed a head gasket. It has no power and the interior is really cheap. It does go good in snow.

Well, I broke down and bought a little nicer truck than I've ever had. Bought it used with 118k miles. It is in really clean condition and looks like it had not seen much work in it's 7 year lifespan. The hooks where you put safety chains on the rear look like they have never seen a chain on them.

It is the 5.0L Cummins Turbo Diesel and tows over 12k. It's a 2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum, the XD has been upgraded to haul more. It didn't come with books so I'll be looking up the owner manual or ordering one.

I've never owned a diesel car/truck so will be learning what not to do or to do. I almost put gas in it tonight, I know not to do that ;)

I have the same truck, same year but the Pro 4X version. The first thing that hit me was its size. It dwarfed my old Suburban! It didn't come without its problems, either, the first being my side mirrors would dip when put in reverse and not return when put in drive. Went to the dealer under warranty 4 or 5 times only to hear the usual bs, "can't replicate the problem, seems fine sir." Until finally, on a long trip I was pulling out of a gas station & had to quickly cut across three lanes to a left turn. It was early morning, traffic was light and as I pulled across the lanes I looked at my side mirror only to find myself looking at the ground - and was almost hit by a very fast moving car that came out of nowhere. Took truck to dealer again, angrily told them what had transpired and that if I ever had an accident because of these faulty mirrors and survived I'd see them in court with the finest lawyers I could hire. Haha, never had that problem again.

Here's where Nissan stepped up to the plate. Just after the warranty expired (only 2/yrs for 2016 models, now it's 3 or 4) the Turbo Actuator failed and truck would lose serious power. It was an $800+ fix. I whined to my dealer who told me to call Nissan and ask them to help out. Called Nissan, explained what a loyal customer I was, blah, blah, blah (I'd previously owned a Sentra) - and, God bless them, they covered the entire cost.

But, a few months later the turbo went. This is a complicated Cummins 2 stage turbo that is part mfd by a sub contractor for Cummins. All my online research led me to believe this turbo had oil starvation problems that often resulted in turbo failure and that it was now no longer available (by this time Nissan had discontinued the diesel model), neither parts for it. Dealer assured me this was not the case and $5,600+ later I had a new turbo and truck was back in action. I asked if this is the same turbo or had they modified it to fix the inherent problems? I was told that it's a redesigned model of the same turbo. However, just two weeks later I got a letter from Nissan letting me know there had been turbo problems with my model truck & they'd replace the turbo free of charge or, if I had already replaced it, they'd cover my costs 100%. And they did!

Ask your local dealer to run your V.I.N. see if your turbo has been replaced already. If not, Nissan should cover that and any online "updates" that have not been done yet. I've found Nissan customer service to be extremely responsive.

Otherwise I'd say you've got yourself a great truck. If not on truck already, you'll need running boards (it's a big step up to cab) and a spring loaded kick down rear step to help get into the bed.

I think Nissan, faced with competing against the BIG 3 plus the Tundra, gave this truck their best shot and overbuilt the thing. Mileage is its weakest area but the bed is a class act with 5 anchoring rails and attachment points everywhere. The seats are unbeatable for long distance driving, the cab is quiet, the ride is relatively compliant (for its year anyway) and it's as solid as you can get. I'm still on the original tires 70k miles later.

On one long trip I had to do a super-rapid lane change at 40mph towing a 7000lb car trailer. I literally had no time to think or even look to see if there was a car in the lane to my right - it was that kind of emergency. I was shocked, no wiggle, no waggle, no fishtailing, nothing; just a rock solid 1 second, 40mph lane change! Plenty of praise to God for saving our bacon, too.

Thank you for the response and advice. If you check out post #26, I traded the Nissan the next day.

It was a bit of a costly decision I chose to bite the bullet now versus deal with failed turbos and failed transmissions.

I did read plenty of guys who are happy with their Titan XD Cummins.

Hopefully you get many good years out of yours with no issues.

I bought a new set of pallet forks. Yep, it was just a few short months ago I was the proud owner of a new set of Chinese forks. Well, partly my fault, largely their fault, I was in the market for a new set. But it wasn’t a total failure, I used them long enough to know what features are important to me. I also did a lot more research this time, looked at a lot of forks at tractor dealers, read a lot of threads and reviews. I decided on a set made right here in Texas. I used them for the first time today and I am pleased with them.

Or Powerstroke, so long as its an antique 7.3L or a modern 6.7L.
Only issue there is a “antique” 7.3L is a 20+ year old truck with an iffy transmission and a “modern” 6.7L is $40,000+++ with same issues as any of the modern diesels with DEF/DPF
