Tractor
John Deere 790 / Kubota L3301

I was looking at the best of tractors, and I came across this list as the most reliable tractors in North America..

1. John Deere

2. New Holland

3. Case IH

4. Kubota

5. Massey Ferguson

6. Fendt

7. Claas

Is this list correct or is Kubota better than John Deere or on par, and why are Case and New Holland even up there. And what happened to all the others, like Mahindra, Sonalika, etc.. or are these listed the best tractors.

Too many possible variables to say how accurate it is. What timespan was involved in the data? What locations were sampled, worldwide, North America, etc.
If you include data from 50-60 years ago, then I can see how JD might be at the top, as would IH or now Case IH, New Holland surprised me though.

This list could pertain to 200 hp tractors and bigger. Most of the guys farming 2000 acres and more around here are using Deere, Case and NH. I did see a new Fendt yesterday. It was probably a 400 hp tractor.

That’s a pointless question that has no answer. What’s “best” for you and what’s “best” for me will not be the same thing. Buy something you like, can afford, and get parts for.

I would say something similar to this ^

Need more data but I'd also say it depends on a lot of things.

I disagree, as I immediately found many issues when looking at some of the tractors, to say nothing of the dealers for some of the brands, it was bad. The only dealers who even tried to help with a purchase were Kubota and John Deere to say the least, and that added to marks against the other tractors as how could you depend on them for just regular maintenance to keep the tractors running or real issues on the tractors.

Out of that list JD and Kubota are really the two that go after the consumer type market, then probably MF, then NH. Does Claas even sell machines in the US or just implements? I'm really thinking this list is for big machines, in which case it's probably pretty accurate.

The list does seem pretty accurate to me. I notice The newer bigger New Holland tractors seem to be very popular when I’m riding across the country but the last few years the number of Kubota’s out in the fields working also seems to be growing significantly. I believe John Deere will likely continue to maintain the number one spot for quite a while.

Did you ever bother look up issues on your own tractors ?
I immediately found issues on your JD 790.

OK. Then why are you asking a question you already made up your mind about?

Any piece of equipment is prone to breakdowns, repairs, etc. my personal experience with tractors (just 20 to 40 hp "homeowner" tractors) over the past 20 years is that I did not have any "brand" related issues. Just normal repairs (hoses, alternators, etc - wear items, I guess you could say).

The "most dependable" tractors are any make or model, as long as they were made before about 1980. They were so simple there was nothing to go wrong with them. All the bells and whistles - especially all the electronics - that have been added since then have been the main repair problems.

Why you still see all those old 8Ns, old Farmalls, old Deeres, etc. still running today.

There is also a fairly small and unknown company called Yanmar that has been manufacturing reliable tractors for a few years now.
I think they started out making engines for another small time manufacturer.
