Wet sandblasting

It works very well... the key is to use well dried sand and to keep it dry, otherwise it will clog up. One advantage for me is that my power washing trailer is mobile with 250 gallons of water. Take it anywhere for sandblasting...

Do you treat the steel with anything prior to priming? Clean it with a solvent first? I want to try the wet sandblasting as well.

What sand do you use? I seem to remember a youtube video that explained he tried one type of sand that wasn't fine enough, but then another 'type' of sand that worked very well.

I watched a youtube video. Looks like it works amazingly and for $30 its a no brainer. It makes a mess thoughso I would do it smewhere you would not mind piles of sand. The guy I watched used medium masonry sand. Regular old sand has too much variation in grain size and it clogs up siphon he said.

-I use play sand, very dry, will not clog and cheap.

We had a paint contractor wet sandblast a 4 water tanks for us due to lead paint. A skidsteer and crew put that spoil in roll off dumpsters and hauled it away. Then parts of the tanks were dry blasted and painted the same day.

There is no need for mask, no dust. The play sand out of the bag is fine enough does not clog.
You do you, but if you're open blasting there's dust. Even if the sand was fully washed some grains will pulverize on impact.

Slag (black beauty) is far safer.

I wet sandblasted 12- 50 pound bags of play sand and there is absolutely no dust in wet sanding. A power washer puts out much more water than sand.
