Welding Books

...if you could find someone that welds a lot (ask at the local welding supply house) and does it as a hobby, they may be willing to sit down with you for a day at your convienience and go through it with you.

I actually started the whole "Learning to Weld" process by talking with my Uncle who is one of the premier ornamental iron workers in Salt Lake. It may be time for me to sit down with him again now that I have more experience and more questions. I suppose I could take some examples of my welds to him too for him to critique.

Watch a good welder at work, and from then on it is mostly practice,
start on simple projects once you get the basics.
