Weld on Teeth for a Tree Digging Attachment

I am building an attachment to mount on my BX25 FEL QH. It is a piece of 18" Dia pipe contoured to dig and salvage a root ball for replanting or containerizing. nI need some small weld on teeth on the bottom and part way up the sides to assist in the digging. I have looked all over the internet and everything seems to be the two piece pin or bolt on units and too big. Maybe around 1" wide X 3" long made of forged steel. Will probably weld on using stainless or 7014 rod.

Has anyone done something similar or know a source of this type tooth?

Commercially made ones come in all styles.



I would sharpen the edge and try it that way before adding teeth. Sharpening a hand shovel makes a big difference compared to the factory blunt edge.

Yeah, you see those prices and that makes you want to make your own.

I would just cut a zig-zag edge, and add some hardfacing if you think it would wear out.

Thanks Dan, The zig-zag edge was also my first thought also but I thought maybe something more agressive may be out there. I have a bunch of old mower blades and thought pieces of that might also work, weld them on with SS or 7014.
