The only way I can surf the web is through AOL,I always prefered to just log onto AOL and surf the web via Internet Explorer, but when I try to use Internet Explorer everything just comes up blank and tells me that the "page cannot be found" The only way I can surf the web is through the AOL browser. I use to be able to read my yahoo mail using the AOL browser, but now I cannot do this now.I bring up the yahoo mail page through the AOL browser, but when I type in my user ID and password and click enter,it then say's "page cannot be found" I find this strange since I use to be able to access my yahoo mail account through the AOL browser but I now cannot, but I can access everything else on the web via the AOL browser. Do you think this has been caused by a virus ? I am using Windows XP,do you think I need to reintall Windows ??
Also when I try to use WalMart browser the Walmart home page comes up after logging on but everything is blank except the Walmart wording on the home page, unable to display news/weather etc.... I assuming that AOL probably has a better browser than Walmart thus letting me view the internet despite what ever is going on with my computer.

Thanks

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus software running? If not, I suggest you get yourself a copy of it (or some other anti-virus software package).

Also, get yourself some anti-spyware software and run that as well.

Wal*Mart browser? Never heard of it. If you want a different browser, I suggest Mozilla's Firefox.

1. I still don't see a WalMart browser
2. I only see the offerings of Netscape or AOL service.

tpost,
Go to this site. It is the down load page for Avast. Click on "avast! 4 Home Edition FREE Download". It is by far the best anti-virus program that I have ever had. They keep it up to date and automatic down load updates just like the paid sites. The only thing that I can figure from looking at the site etc is that they do the free home version so that they can get more commercial and industrial clients.

First, I profess to know very little - but as with most of us, we get more experience with problems like this than we ever wanted or wished for.

To me, it sounds like AOL upgrade has taken MS Internet Explorer out of the picture. I've had upgrades do that before, and seems the software companies take every opportunity to 'capture' your computer into their fold.

Recently I made a MS upgrade (I believe to a newer, better version of MS Internet Explorer) and it installed a spyware program that wiped out some very handy menu's and search links that I was using. Turns out, I was getting some other versions of this spywares search engine. Didn't like it, so started to try to find out what MS was up to. Dead end, even when eMailing their customer service. Norton AntiVirus weekly system scan identified this spyware, and I removed it. I wasn't happy that it came in on the shirttails of MS.
Just an outside chance you have recently had an upgrade of AOL that kicked out your MS IE.

Since AOL bought Netscape they are probably switching browsers out with their upgrades. AOL released a preview version of the browser to a select group of testers in late November, 2005. With this release, AOL takes aim at Microsoft's dominant Internet Explorer Web browser, which has suffered from many security vulnerabilities. In addition, AOL is looking to piggyback on the popularity of Mozilla's Firefox. The Netscape browser doesn't include the IE engine but it uses the engine that is incorporated in Windows. As a result, the Netscape 8 browser works only on Windows computers.

Sounds like you may have to go to the "Tools" section of your Internet browser and adjust your cookie controls.
