Andy,
Were closing on the 20"mark real fast up here, and the drifts are growing. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
If this storm keeps up plus the one coming for this weekend...well it will be mid May before the snow melts around here.
One good thing about the country..just keep pushing the banks back and high. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Ski goggles sound like a good idea, but I'm thinking about my full face helmet, for the snow falling from the trees...ouch. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Enjoy and stay safe down there.

Southern New Hampshire received about 26" of heavy wet snow from this past storm.
Perfect for making snowballs and snowman.
Around noontime today I decided that I'd better get out there and move some of that snow
if I was going to Boringville tomorrow. My BX has a FEL and Ag tires.
I could go about 8 feet before the bucket loaded up and I lost power.
Sometimes I'd get a wheel spinning sometimes not.
So I had to scoop a bucket full, back track and dump. Took me about 3 hours to my driveway
(225 ft.) and my neighbors (45 ft.). Moving 26" of heavy snow with BX+FEL isn't the best choice
of machines, something either bigger or another implement is required.
I shouldn't have waited so long before going out to move the snow.
Previous storms of 6-12 inches where no problem but 26" of wet heavy snow is different.
Also have to remember to push the banks back farther as I ran out of height and space.
Driveway is pretty tight now. I'll have to rework the mounds later this week. But now I know!
This is the first serious limitation I have found with this machine.

Also experienced one of those "OH Sh__ It's going over!" related events.
I caught the bottom of a small tree stump and while trying to lift the bucket
the backside started to come up! My first reaction was let go of the joystick
and grab the steering wheel with both hands. "We're going over!" raced through my mind.
Then after about a second or two the bark on the
stump stripped off and "bang" she was down on all fours.
Probable only came up a few inches, most,
but it is definately something you feel in the seat of your pants.

ok, moving snow offically stopped being fun yesterday after the second time I plowed. Don't know how much we got total but for two days there was NO period I'm aware of it at least wasn't snowing lightly. Syracuse is now about 20 inches away from the snowiest season on record (Up to 173 inches as of today, 192 or so was the previous record) Any of you guys (or gals) without snow are MORE than welcome to come on by and play. I'll show you where to move the snow and the beer and coffee's on me!! When's spring coming????...................

28 to 31" here in the Champlain Valley and here I sit with a miserable case of the flu. Last thing in the world I want to do is shovel around the barn door so I can get my 1710 out to plow . Forunately, the neighbor's 15 yr. old son is having the time of his life with his father's new JD 4400. I think he has plowed every driveway for a mile in each direction. He is using just the bucket but he sure can move fast with that hydro trans. He seems to be having no trouble with the turf tires either.

Got a breather today - clear and sunny, almost forgot what that looks like! Gonna get some more tractor time even if we don't get anymore snow. My neighbor who we get the hay from is in Florida until April and I have to go get some hay this weekend. Means I have to plow a road to his barn to get the pick up in since he doesn't have anyone plow when he's gone. oh well - here we go again................

Thomas, I think I can safely say spring has arrived in my part of the country. The blue bonnets and Indian paintbrush are blooming, and more importantly the mesquite are budding. The old mesquite is seldom fooled. Now if it will just dry out a little. It rains, we get a few days of sunshine, then the rain returns. Its a pattern we had for a while now, and I shouldn't complain. When it stops, we will probably go three months without a drop. Sooner or later I'll get a chance to do some tractor work.

One of the geese has made herself a nest on a little island out in the middle of the pond. May have lil' goslings in about a month or so.. When I made my bus route this morning, there was a jake and 3 hens beside the road pecking grain that had blown off of passing trucks (wild turkeys) wish I had the camera with me'

Looking outside I'd say that you haven't found the valve yet!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Predicting 8-12 more inches here in SNH.

Yes Thomas, he follows me where ever I go. Right now he is standing outside thew office door yelling his fool head off. He loves to be petted. He even follows me on the tractor. The pond gets smaller in the summer. Last summer it was so dry for so long, that it dried completely up. It catches run off water and and also fills up when the river rises.

Thomas, how long does winter last in NH? We will be picking strawberries about the 10th of May. The wheat fields are pretty and green. I noticed this morning that a lot of the farmers were out with the big rigs and 30 foot discs, starting getting the ground ready for planting soy beans. Wish i could E-mail you some of this loverly weather that we are having.
