ErnieB, even though you're farther south, my weather isn't a great deal different. 34 to 38 all day Christmas Day with light rain, and 30 to 32 yesterday with rain (only totalled about 2.25" in the two days), and so far today started at 27 and has only warmed up to 28 degrees. When you're accustomed to about a 20 degree variation from low to high each day, this is certainly different. At least we didn't get the ice and volume of rain a lot of the state's gotten.

DFB,
Looks like the low pressure has been down graded, but you know as well the weather can't change at anytime up in these parts during winter, /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gifand that jet stream is the key.

Those Canada high pressures have keep the temps down for sure, also the winds...well looks like I have extra raking to do this spring. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Heck when I went to bed at 11pm it was -1 and at 5:30am it was 14 above and now 23 degress....<font color=red>HEAT<font color=red><font color=black>wave.
To be honest I'm more than itchy to get some tractor time, and if this storm comes thru I won't be bugging you guys here....oh no maybe I'm getting cabin fever...better have another coffee. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Take care up there and stay warm.

Bird, after last summer, I never ever thought I would be complaining about rain, but it seems like we just keep getting enough to keep the ground muddy. Almost a month of this now, and it's getting a little weary.
I'm sure it gives our Northern friends a chuckle, but our last two Winters have been so mild, these temps in the 30's are really getting to me. At least we haven't had much in the way of frozen precip. But it's still early. I'm almost willing to bet we get snow down here before this Winter is over.

ErnieB, this weather is crazy, ain't it? I just looked out and found 28 degrees and nearly an inch of snow on everything; and with a forecast of sunny and high of 47 today?? We'll see whether the weathermen guessed right or not. And you're tired of rain?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Our "normal" rainfall is 30-35" per year. In 1999, I got 20.7" and now for 2000, I've already gotten over 43" (that's more than any single calendar year in the 6 years I've owned this place). Trouble is that it was all early in the Spring and now in the Winter; almost none in the Summer./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bird, you must have caught the tail end of that system that gave Oklahoma so much trouble, and is now moving east. I guess what I'm really tired of is working in the mud. The other day I was dumping near a tank, where a landowner was trying to build up the dam. Even with both axles engaged, I had a heck of a time getting out of there. Then there was the job site where I was dragging mud out on a state maintained highway/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gifAnd of course, trying to keep the truck clean. Yea, I'm ready for some sunshine.

Bird,
You folks have had some tough weather conditions this year.
Spring time you needed rain than flooding started, than the drought which set recorders, now this winter weather mix bag and you still have 4 days until the new year.

Hope mother nature so more mercy next year for you folks.

Thomas,
I really like your "Weather" thread, maybe, maybe Muhammad will re-think adding this as a topic./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Since weather history isn't that exciting (except to global warming scientists) he could NUKE the thread once a week.
As is, it works for me, gives a touch of reality to what I see on the tube.

Thomas, it's certainly been different this year; too wet in the Spring, too hot and dry in the Summer (with a grasshopper plague), and now too wet and cold. I don't like it; however, since I'm mostly retired and can stay in and drink my coffee most of the time when I want to, it's really just been a very minor inconvenience for me personally compared to what a lot of the country has been going through. When I find a place where the temperature stays between 45 and 65F year round, sun shines every day, rains at night, and no strong winds, I'm gonna move there./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I couldn't have said it better. Maybe someone (Thomas?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) could start a new Thread every week. I don't think anyone would mind if Muhammad sent the older one to the recycle bin.
Thomas, to go with them coffee and donuts, make sure you have some black eyed peas for New Years, so you'll have good luck in the coming year./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Earnie, Thats "hog jowls and black eyed peas" for A LUCKY NEW YEAR. You have to eat both or it won't work. They both go rather well with a pan of Margies' "cornpone" baked in the old iron skillet!! jim

/ Weather. #34
Jim, never heard that you had to have hog jowls with them. I'll be having mine with pork tamales, that are made from pigs head. That should be close enough.

Jim, I never miss having the blackeyed peas and cornbread baked in the cast iron skillet, but didn't know you had to have the hog jowls with it; we've just been using chunks of ham. Maybe that's the reason my luck's been so bad./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

And ErnieB, I know the hog's head was the traditional meat for tamales, but the last 11 years we lived in town, our next door neighbors were a Mexican couple originally from Kansas City. They make their tamales a little different from Tex-Mex, using bigger cubes of pork roast instead of ground or shredded meat, and make the tamales about 4 times as big as what we were accustomed to making. AND TOMORROW WE'RE GOING TO THEIR HOUSE FOR A TAMALE MAKING PARTY!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Bird, I've been envolved in the making of tamales a couple of times. Never could get the hang of it. We get ours from a gal who works with my wife. The homemade ones are best. I've had about every kind thats ever been made, still like the hogs head best. She does make some with refried beans and jalapenos, that are pretty good. My wife ,a city girl from California, likes the pollo (chicken). I like getting them for Christmas, that way I have a lot of presents to unwrap./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Okay I know I from upper north and in a 75% hibernating stage,/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gifbut could you explain what tamales means. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thomas..NH /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

/ Weather. #39
Well, Thomas I'll try. Lets see, you need three things to make tamales. Corn shucks, masa, and the filling. Masa is corn meal mixed with hog lard, or these days a lot of people use vegetable oil or Crisco, and spices. It ends up like a paste. The filling is made with pork, chicken, whatever, and is cooked up with peppers and spices until very tender. You take a corn shuck, spread the masa on it and spoon on the filling. Then comes the real trick, folding the thing up so that the filling is surrounded by masa, and the whole thing is wrapped up nice and neat in the corn shuck. I have never mastered that part. Usually, they are cooked by steaming, to keep them moist. Then it's just unwrap the shuck and enjoy. In this part of the country, there as much a part of Christmas as Santa and a tree. Once, on a visit Gerald Ford was given tamales. He amused the locals by trying to eat one with the shuck still on. I guess he had never heard of tamales either. If anyone ever hands you a tamale, just make sure you remove the shuck before biting into it./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
Hey, to Birds list of talents We can now add tamale making, along with pancake flipping/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Well they are forcasting a pretty good storm for this area tonight and tomorrow. Depending on what model you go by anywhere from 6-18 inchs of the white stuff. Six inches and I'll make a few bucks. But if we get eighteen inches I'll have a sore neck but make quite a few bucks.

Forward--backup--forward--backup--forward--backup--man my neck is sore.

Here are a couple of good weather links. The first has all the models that you can access. http://www.millenniumweather.com/winter/index.html

http://www.wunderground.com/ This one even has local home weather station links.

Let it snow Let it snow Let it snow!!!!
