I noticed the other day my 2520 can barely make it up a hill that my 23hp gear drive had no problem with. It's a little better going up in reverse. Is this normal for a hydroststic trans. to have problems going up steep inclines?

Were you in High Range?
Also note that the hydro pedal is not like the gas pedal in your car, just because you push it further does not necessarily mean you will go faster under load. Try letting up on the pedal a little and see if that helps some.

Also what RPM were you running at? Even on flat ground my 2520 creeps along at the lowest setting. If I had hills I'd check them out for you...

This is with high RPM, low gear. I talked to the service manager where I bought the 2520. They have had one other machine with a similar problem. They need to test the hyd output of the transmission and then either fix it or replace the whole trans. unit.

Check your 3 point hitch lift lever, if it is all the way up it will labor the engine. Go all the way up then back it off an inch, you'll hear the engine quit laboring.

I would also check to see if the brakes are dragging. If you jack up the rear wheel and put range lever in neutral, you should be able to turn rear tires freely by hand. Also be sure the mfwd is disengaged.

3 pt hitch is ok, so are the brakes. I'm gonna drop the tractor off at the dealers this Sat. morning. I'll let you all know what happens.

FYI, the 2520's hyd pressure and everything else tested ok. The service dept mgr said that I was just running out of hyd power do to the steep grade and the distance I was attemping to go. I'm disappointed they didn't find something wrong. I wish my 2520 had a lower gear range. Oh well, that's life.

I have about 180 hrs on my 4110 it may just be me but it seems like it has more power on the ground now than it did at first. It will often spin 3 wheels on dry ground when doin fel work. I don't think it ever did that before about 100 hrs or so.

Thanks Oscer, I've got 60 hrs on the meter now. I'll keep running it and hope for the best.

When I first got my 4010, it didn't seem to have the power to climb the hill down to the creek in high range. Now, I climb it all the time in high range and use high range almost all the time except for brush hogging; just needs 2,000-2,200 minimum rpm in either low or high to climb the hill without lugging or straining. I still use low range going down skinny areas between the trees because it retards forward progress a lot better than high range.

I remember I did the same thing with my Gravely, which was all mechanical because it took some time for me to get used to going fast sitting so low to the ground. Found out the high range clutch was slipping, too. Tightened it up, and everything was fine. None of this has any relation to your problem, just can show how perceptions can cloud our judgement at times.

Thats where the naturally aspired 18 HP shows it true colors and runs out of umph...with or without a slupree in hand. At least with a 2210 (24hp) or a 2520 (26.5) nobody has to worry on a steep incline if they have to dump their slurpee out to make the hill...

a kidding aside the best way to treverse a decline would be in 4x4 and use the engine braking

I find the 2520 tranny to strong both in low and high. Actually it's fast as heck in high, and I can get the machine to drift in the corners - :)

Duc,

Drift in corners? It isn't a Ducatti! Thanks for the tongue-in-cheek. :)

I have a 2520 and had the same issue where it would not go up hills in hi range that my 2210 did just fine with. I also had jerky steering with the loader and lower rpms. I took it to the dealer and there is a ppm(think that what it's called) from Deere about these issue. While mine was just out side the serial #s Deere was looking at Deere expanded the range and replaced the Hydro.

I have not had any more steering issues and it does do better on hills but can still be stalled out on steep hills in high range. In low range there is no stopping it.

I would push the dealer on this, sounds like they may need to replace the hyro
