If understand correctly from your post I had a similar issues with a truck a while ago.... the receiver slot was just a touch too big for the trailer hitch post causing it rattle going down the road.

Home Depot carries red rubber packing sheets (6"x6") in the plumbing section. I cut rectangle out of one of those sheets sized to fit the receiver and slide it in there with the trailer hitch. It took up the extra space and cut down on metal on metal contact basically eliminating any noise caused by parts shifting around.

This box is unusual because the receiver doesn't stick out, so there is not much to clamp to.

I found a shim kit made for this purpose. I'll link to it in case anyone else needs one.

anti-rattle hitch tightener? harbor freight sells them for $12. i've never used one, and have no idea if / how well it works.

The problem is that it has nothing to grip.

it tightens around the drawbar. the flat edge of the plate goes under your box, the angled up end goes under the drawbar, tightening the hex nuts will pull everything tight.

After I wrote the last post, I realized that clamp would prevent me from setting the ballast box down. The internal clamp I found wouldn't be in the way.

Weld legs on so the box sits higher of the ground, and us the HF clamp.
Or weld in the draw bar.

Maybe a good hit with a ball peeing hammer on the tubing from the underside to adjust the fit of the assembly.

Of course, proceed with care... Could be hard to re enlarge the hole.

The kit from Amazon arrived, and when I tried to install, it I found out the carrier is already set up for rattle prevention. The manual didn't say anything about it, so I just assumed.

One side of the tube that goes into the receiver is threaded, so you when you insert the bolt, you tighten it, and it jams the tube against the receiver.
