Water Pump

Mike,
I am the CFO at my place and I am much more of a problem when it comes to justifying spending money than the little woman ever thought of being. I spend months doing research and shopping prior to making any capital purchases. I am a real pain in the rear always trying to get the most bangs for the bucks. If I had my way I would fire me and go on a spending spree.
Been there done that with the Uni-strut, love the stuff. Another product I love is 12 gage slotted angle steel. Wish I had a thousand feet of it.

I have never done that, but I have and idea that a roller pump like used on spray rigs would work perfect for your needs. Tractor supply sells them, less than a hundred dollars. Only time the tracator would be running is while you want water isn't it. My brush pile burning requires more effort getting to burn than putting out. Luck in your fun my friend......teddy

Farwell,

I find that small gasoline engines use an outrageous amount of fuel. My 14hp mower uses nearly twice as much fuel as my tractor.

If the pulleys are set up right, fuel usage should be very acceptable except for the most fuel hungry implements. Generators for example require high PTO RPM, and will probably guzzle fuel.

Hi Greg,
How about a large enough v-belt pulley mounted right right on the pto shaft, with maybe a tensioning device for the v-belts, and the pump mounted on the drawbar on a steel plate??

Greg,
Uni-strut is a product that you see in warehouses and industrial plants used to support conduit/pipes/electrical fixtures, etc. It has numerous uses and is readily available at the big box stores. Most of the big box stores also carry the accessories that go along with the Uni-strut, things like the threaded wedges that will fit in the slot in the Uni-strut, different sizes of pipe clamps, etc. Check out the conduit area of your big box store and you should find it in that area. It comes in different lengths but I think that 10 feet may be the standard. Once you get some you will find many uses for it if you build things. Another good thing is that it is re-useable over and over and over.

Bob,
Looks like I may have been making fuel assumptions with out facts. Probably based on the number of times I have to add fuel to my JD 2010 and the $ it costs each time I do. I have an 18 HP Kubota lawn tractor and I can usually get about 4 hours out of a full tank. Not sure of the tank size so I haven't done the hours per gallon check yet.

Farwell,

I guess my tractor does so well because I rarely run it over 1800 RPM. My riding lawn mower always runs wide open, probably 3600 RPM. If my lawn mower would still mow if I reduced it to 1800 RPM, it would probably get fantastic fuel efficiency.

If's and but's! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bob,
I run my lawn mower at full throttle and the pedal to the metal. I think mine has a hydrostatic drive or some such drive, so I probably don't get good mileage either driving it like I do. On the JD my idle reads around 1200 RPM and I probably run it around 1800 RPM doing average work and jack it up a little if I am climbing a hill when pulling equipment. Think my carb may need adjusting or my manual choke cable isn't moving the linkage as far as it should because I frequently smell raw gas. If I get that fixed I may get a little better mileage.
