I left the remote on a few seconds after the cable had already come in. Now it won't take a load and makes a funny sound when I'm reeling in the cable by remote. Any simple solution or has something broken inside the gears? I have the parts list and schematic for it. I looked inside and could see nothing obviously broken. It looked too involved to remove all the gears inside so I closed it back up. Still does not reel in as it should or under load.

Might have burned a pole in the motor from stalling, and you might smell the result. It would 'growl' and lose power if so.

I think you're working on the wrong solution. Wenches frequently respond to ribald attention, sometimes money.

Sorry for the typo. I meant winch...not wench. Fingers do not obey me at all times anymore and the eyes do not catch their mistakes...Or was it just the crazy spell check going on.

My visiting mechanic son took it apart last night while I watched, fascinated, and he found no broken gears among the many it has. We will ck the solenoid next. He had replaced a solenoid in it last year with one from China that we had ordered. Different symptoms this time so he did not check it first. Will post any positive outcome of that check.

Believe winch should have overload circuit breakers so if strain is more than winch is capable of it should cut electrical supply.... Never tested concept to be sure with my JEEP/winch combination, I am just very attentive to winching operations...

As for the wench, after the divorce things got better....

Or are you really having a problem with 2.5 wenches on a Christmas morning? If so, you got more than mechanical or electrical problems today buddy.... Best of luck....

Still celebrating Christmas and it was the only time our son can come up to do stuff like this. He did find the problem today. It was item ref #5, Stage 2 Sun Gear #70390 on their parts list. It is under $30. I have written to Warn and sent them pictures of this gear. This winch is lightly used with no grit, dirt or water inside. Our son feels the part was defective and not hardened sufficiently when it was made. I will attach a picture of the damaged gear so that it might help others with this problem.

That looks like a sintered vs machine-cut gear. Not gonna be the strongest, just much lower cost to produce.

Which Badlands do you have a like, the 2500 lb, 5000 lb or the 12,000 lb one? Where are they made?

And how do you use your winches? For muddy work or less dirty work?

For sale at Harbor Freight, made in China, and by the pictures, its same winch many retailers sell under their own branding.... My XRC 10,000 pound looks suspiciously the same as HF winch ... Probably all come from same factory in China under one design....

I have the HF 12k with wireless, works good. Don't use it a ton though.
