Mid-Mount Mower WANTED MID MOUNT PTO KIT

It would probably help if you stated your location...

Anyway, there's a TBN member called Magnum Dodge who has a 72" mid-mount mower for sale. He's in northern Maryland.
Can't help you with the kit though...

I bought a John Deere 4600 and wanted to add a mid mount mower to it. Now I find out that the mid mount PTO Field Install Kit is no longer available, I can build it out of the parts book but it would cost half as much as the tractor cast me. The mower is not the problem once I find the kit.

I can buy almost any part I need for my 1937 B John Deere, 1939 H John Deere, 1945 H John Deere, but my 1989 430 John Deere and this 1999 4600 John Deere don't support all the parts for them any more.

I live in the Chicago, Illinois area.

Those are contradictory statements....

Deere is in the business of selling new tractors. So they stop selling "kits" after a new model comes out. But they make the old parts available for those that already have the kits but broke them. Works the same in the auto industry too. I can't buy a new-in-the-box bluetooth kit for my wife's car but I can put it together from the parts catalog if I like.

Which is all to say that I think you're being a little harsh on Deere. The fact that they still support parts for 50 year old tractors means its likely your 4600 will make it to 50 years if you want it to. But if you wanted a MMM you probably should have bought a 4600 with one already there. Or search eBay and MachineFinder for the next two years.

Besides, how else would we keep the engineers and marketing people employed if we were still selling 1985 models? ;)

Well...still selling the 3005-790-770-670. That's ought to get us pretty close to 1985.

Not really. He did list some qualifying terms in there, and maybe all the parts for his PTO are still available.
Its not much of a qualifying statement when he said he can build the PTO from the parts book but is complaining that the kit, and its associated part number, is no longer available. And that part number we all seem to agree shouldn't be available due to Deere's best interests.

Gear jammers are disappearing in the auto/truck world, and probably in the tractor world before long.
You have any stats to back that up? When my uncle visited from Russia a little over four years ago he was dying to drive my Ranger because it was an auto. In his 50+ years he had never so much as seen an automatic transmission.

Perhaps my use of "world" wasn't much of an accurate qualifying statement, but I did say "are disappearing" and I'll stand by that statement even if my passport only says USA. Stats, you want stats? Go to your dealer and get stats! Any dealer; cars, light trucks, heavy trucks, off road machines, tractors. Visit the Fuller transmission website. The stats are out there for the viewing,
So you googled it and found nothing? I figured as much.

even in your own driveway.
In my driveway there are 3 manuals and 2 autos. And it would have been 4:1 if we had more time to shop for the last one.

No, but it was sufficient.
Arguing just to argue at this point, eh?

True, true! I suspect that they don't have to put much of their resources into them, and their days may be numbered too. Gear jammers are disappearing in the auto/truck world, and probably in the tractor world before long. Fortunately, there are enough buyers to warrant the 790 & 990.

Why on earth would you write something like that? Gears are sill the most efficient method of transferring power. I expect you'll see large trucks with gear transmissions for quite a while. I expect you'll see gear transmissions for tractor (bigger Utility and Ag tractors) for the same reason and also for the foreseeable future.
CUTs...well, not so sure...due to the market (women, girly men who can't handle manly work). However, there will be some gear trannies available just for the sake of economics.

I have been looking to buy a used diesel pickup and have noticed, much to my dismay, that the vast majority of them are indeed automatic transmissions. I think that little observation, plus a little look into the HST-laden SCUT and CUT world is a possible glimpse into the trend toward more granny trannies in the tractor market.

Too bad. I like shifting.

As far as mid mount PTO kits go... Sorry. No clue.
