Walmart - End of an Era

I assume those of you who shop at Walmart have noticed that the trade mark "Walmart Greeter" is no more. They pulled them back from the door for a few days, apparently offered some of them other jobs, and laid off the rest. I understand this was nationwide, if not world wide. I'm sure the shoplifters appreciate it. But I'd just guess that the increased losses to shoplifters will be less than the salaries they were paying the greeters. I suppose it's "good business", but I for one hated to see that happen.

Just another business cutting back on employees ahead of OBAMACARE fully kicking in.

Unless it is declared unconstitutional by the USC there will be more businesses doing so until we can get Obama voted out and Obama re repealed.

Actually businesses would prefer single payer like the rest of the developed world has. Net those businesses that have health insurance would pay less and those businesses that don't currently have health insurance would pay more. But nice try.

When did this supposedly happen?

I was there less then 2 weeks ago and ours still had a greeter. He tries to give my daughter a sticker every time but can't seems to get the job done. LOL.

We have self check out scanners at almost every store around here, and I much prefer using them than waiting in line for a person

I usually only have a dozen or so items and they work great
I always use the self checkout lane if available. Get the heck out of there.

We that know small businesses in town should try to support them? Another thing you can do to help the locals is to pay by cash or check. We small businesses do not get the break of CC fees that WM expects to get.

Never use a CC unless requested with small businesses due to the CC fees that come off the top of the gross and net income if any. If you do not like WM get $100 cash back at each purchase. :D

How would that matter?

I was surprised this morning to find the greeter that I've known for 6 years still there. Of course, he's now standing back by the produce instead of near the door. So he's really doing nothing, and for those who don't already know it, standing around one place doing nothing is about the hardest work I know of. I really think Walmart is trying to get them to quit so the company can say they didn't lay them off. And that's a guess with no evidence to back it up.;)

i talked tot he same guy in sporting goods again yesterday, the one that had originally told me about the greeters going away, and he said they actually offered some different positions if available.. but as you mention.. there were simply not enough.. and I do think they may want them to quit.

I saw 2 greeters i recognized yesterday. one was sweeping, and the other was working or being trained int he indoor auto section where they keep batteries and oil and such.

good luck to em'

Not to get off topic but where does the money come from to pay the health care benefits anyway in that scenario? (speak for yourself on single payer as far as mandates go btw)

Nobody especially the goobermint seems to understand there has to be excess cash flow in a business in order to provide any more than a paycheck.

Oh yeah I remembered we are the bad old rich folks taking advantage of employees like slave labor and raking in all the dough for ourselfs.
