wallenstein logging winches

   / wallenstein logging winches #51
Hi Everyone,

Its been of few weeks now that i ve been working with my FX85 and i love it. Lately i had a bit of issues with the clutch adjustement. Its seems like it happens when i am locking the drum and skidding my logs. The cable remains locked (even after unlocking the brake). I thought at first that it was an other issue with the remote control. but when i start adjusting the cluch via thoses 3 bolts in the back of the plate, the cable comes loose again and its all good. However, it does lock again as soon as i skid again.
Is there a trick or a proper way to know if the clutch is properly adjusted so i don t have to do it all the time?
The manual says to "feel" with the white rope engaging the rope but, again, that s for the models without the remote control.
I assume the clutch comes a bit loose when i hit a stump or when the pull as some resistance when winching.
My tractor is in the wood lot so i can t take pictures to help illustrating but i will soon.
Anyone had a bit of similar issues?
Thanks for the helps.

W.

The closest thing I've had to that problem (on a different brand winch with a different braking and clutch system) is when I don't wind the cable in under tension, the do a hard pull on top of those somewhat loose wraps. The tighter wrap pulls down inside the loose wraps underneath and get stuck. Sometimes it takes a lot of pulling to get it unstuck (occasionally, i need to anchor the cable to a tree and drive off to unwind it).

This also happens to be a great way to put waves or kinks in the cable, in severe cases, it can ruin the cable.
