Somebody said there should be more follow thru on threads, so...

I ordered the chipper on Feb 10 with a $500 deposit and it arrived yesterday. I picked it up today with an additional check for $1,938, so the total price "out the door was $2,438 - the quoted price.

Here are a couple of shots of it before I roughly installed it on the tractor:

I also picked up this and a toohbar for my front end loader:

couple of questions.

Is the manual feed reversable? Does it have to be fed from the top, or can it be fed from the side?

How much extra is the hydraulic, and what does it add?

For anyone who owns one of these, how much of a "come down" is it from a professional chipper? My usual issue is not size of logs - like many, that's firewood, but not having to cut up large branches so they don't jam in the chute if that makes sense.

The manual is reversible by pulling the limb back toward you. They are somewhat gravity fed, and/or you gently push the limb in by hand. In the pics of the wallenstein, the hopper is in the "folded for storage" position. When in use, it is hinged down, and the hopper would be at a slightly downward slant. The hydraulics kit for the Wallenstein adds two hydraulic feed rollers and a valve to adjust the feed rate. The feed is reversible by pushing in on the bar around the feed hopper. In theory, if somehow you were accidentally pulled toward the hopper, your body would hit the bar and it would automatically reverse. It can be added to a manual feed chipper at a later date if you wish. Hydraulic feed adds about two grand to the price..... perhaps slightly higher with the price of steel now. If you are using it for stuff smaller than firewood, you would consider it a professional chipper, and not be disappointed in any way. I own a hydraulic feed BX62, and its a brush devouring monster...... though i do not have my 3030 plumbed for it yet.

It sounds to me like a way for the dealer to get the price back to MSRP. All the pricing I have heard is for the chipper with the manual chute, and is usually around $2500. I think that $2895 is MSRP with the maual chute.
Sounds about right, my dealer shot 2900.00 at me. He usually dose much better.

We have been very happy with our bx62. The manual feed is more than adaquate if you ask me. It more or less self feeds, by that I mean the angle of the blade draws the tree/branch into the chipper. It is a side feed machine. Ours will be getting a lot more use very soon.

smfcpacfp, nice car in the background, is that the new vette?

In comparison to the B3030, that BX-62 does look like a monster in ducktape's photo. I was toying with getting the BX-62, but someone here said "anything bigger than 4" is firewood".

99% of the dead trees here are jackpine which is what I will be chipping. I never used to burn, but when maple is $1,000 for a 10 cord load, I have decided to burn jackpine. I have both a wood and propane furnace.

The Vette is a 2007 with 13,000+ miles on it and will have quote a few more on it when I get back from Tucson in 2 1/2 weeks.

Well, just make sure you plan on cleaning the creosote out more often when burning pine vs hardwood...

BX-42 vs BX-62
110 lbs vs 180lbs rotor weight...
Just means when I chip the 4" stuff the chipper will not be maxed...:)

I only burn wood when I can burn it very hot, plus my wood furnace has a catalytic reburning unit, so there is really no creosote.

Are you using something like this?
More performance from your Catalytic Converter

In general, catalytic stoves are a little more efficient initially than noncatalytic stoves, but catalysts deteriorate over time and need to be replaced every two to four years to ensure good performance.

Out of curiosity...what do these catalysts cost to replace?

I bought an aftermaket one that had literally disintegrated by the end of winter. From the manufacturer, it was about$250, and as you said they last 2 to 4 years.

In addition to increasing efficiency, they keep the chimney clean.

I just recieved my BX42 from Woodward crossing. I have a JD 4300. Woodward crossing was great to deal with and I am very happy with the chipper. I am glad I went with the 42, and I did not get the hydro feed option. I will post a pic soon.

Not around Union SC. Ever heard of Clemson University :D

But green goes good with my Kioto orange and my Woods yellow implements. So far I don't have any orange implement, ain't no use to start trying to color coordinate now:rolleyes:

Question on BX42 vs BX62. I have 37 HP at PTO. While I will not be chipping 6" logs (most use will be 3-4" logs/limbs), should I "upsize" to the BX62? Since I am approaching the limit of the BX42, would the BX62 be a better choice? Usually I have found it better to stay below the operating limits of equipment. The price difference is not great.
