Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Guys, no one certain person. This is a utility thread. I know and have no doubt that Kubota is #1 in sales of compacts, but this is a thread about utility tractors. I really don't think that Kubota is even in the top 5-6 in utilities. If you have some numbers from a reputable organization, please show them to me.

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

There is a McCormick dealer that just opened a few hours from here, I assumed they were just rebadged Agco's. Anyone have any other info on them? Some of their smaller units on the website look to be Case/ International castings.

( Take a look at the McCormick CX line of tractors. They have Perkins engines and come fully loaded. The NH, JD, & Kubota's all weigh about 2,000 LBS less on the same hp tractor than the same size McCormick. In our area the McCormick's sells from $1,500 to $3,000 less than the other premium brands. McCormick sold just over 2,000 tractors last year in the USA. That is exceptional for the 3rd year of sales presence in the USA. The USA is just about 20% of McCormick's world sales volume. )

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

The actual industry designation of a utility tractor is greater than 40 HP and less than 100 HP. That is a bit confusing because what I believe JerryG considers a compacts, a smaller frame tractor, but with more than 40 HP is really a compact tractor. Are JD 4720 & Kubota 5030L's compacts? I would say yes and I think JerryG does too but the marketing folks consider these tractors utility tractors. Speaking about what the term utility means in East Tennessee most of the people understand it to mean a non-cab full size tractor with the PTO HP between 40-60. But in areas where there is more row crop farming these folks usually mean a non-cab full-size tractor from 60-100 PTO HP. Does this mean that cab tractors in the 60-100 are not utility tractors? NO the cab tractors usually come with all the bells and whistles and are usually referred to as Cab tractors not utility tractors. JerryG is correct that Kubota is just beginning to sell numbers of tractors in the 60-90 PTO HP range. The 60-90 HP sales figures are 40% less than the 40-60 HP tractors. So I think JerryG is saying where medium farming operations occur Kubota does not dominate like they do in compact sales. I'd say they are 5th or 6th in sales numbers. Kubota's numbers drop drastically as the HP goes up. I'm by no means saying Kubota does not make a good 60-100 HP tractor. Kubota is just a Johnny come lately to the larger HP tractors and have not earned a large market share there.

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

McCormick tractors are made in Old IH factory in England and a few models are made in France. ARGO is the parent company. NOT AGCO. ARGO owns Landini, Leverda Combines, Morra, Fella, Fort, etc. McCormick makes a world class tractor.

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Both excellent replies! This explains a lot of things.

It is true everyone has a different view of what ag tractors are. I would also agree Kubota isn't really a player in the larger ag market, topping out at the M-120, they aren't even out of haying size tractors for some people.

I'm really surprised the power under the sheet metal on the euro tractors, looked at some Landini's last week, looked physically the size of the neighbours 90 hp NH but it was a 160 hp monster. Once I stepped to the rear I could see the width of the radial tires on it and the size of the castings but footprint wise it could be used for haying and loader/feeding tasks.

Maybe they try to only use one tractor over in europe?

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Mark,

Do you have any kind of breakdown by states?

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Europe has very narrow roads so they have very compact equipment. Also, a lot of their work is pto work. Usually front and rear pto so the tractors need a lot of hp to work the equipment as they make their way thru fields. They do a lot of one pass tillage and have some very unique equipment compared to the states. This is also why you do not see many artics in Europe, they are too big.

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Yea Robert, you hit the center of target.
Not only narrow roads - small fields, compare to US is reason, too.
Another reason for big hp in small package is hauling - allmost all ag hauling is done by tractors and one or two trailors behind.

You don't need heavy tractor if you use dinamic loading - weight transfer from implement or trailor.

We never had tractor heavier than 2.5 tonnes, but it was enough to do all our tasks. Most important thing was hp for fast transportation on road from field to field, in 10-15km circle.
With new tractor, equipped with 40 kph gearbox (pitty, not a 50 kph /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) we can be faster than rain ... sometimes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

My Zetor Euro design has a ground speed PTO selector that is used for powering wagon wheels.

A few years back I took a trip along the Danube from Budaphest to a giant former USSR dairy farm being privatized. I asked our host why people built picture perfect 2 story sheds in the middle of each field? Turns out they were homesteads!

Hi,

Our MF dealer is Trinity Equipment sales located in Bradford Ontario. ( Which is approx 35 minutes north of Toronto, and I am located 15 ,imutes north of the dealer. ) They are excellent to deal with which is good for them as word travels fast. We have a BAD Case dealer in the area, so the MF sales are going strong!! There is also the brand loyalty to MF from alot of the farmers in The Holland Marsh, and now that we have a dealer here again, they will be getting rid of their old MF's and buying new ones!! I have no use for idiot dealers, no matter what colour they sell!! Its a shame.. The next good dealership is a NH one, approx an hour North of us!! So to sum it up, we have 1 idiot and too good ones!

Take care

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Hi,

One of the reasons for the 18, 000 tractor sales was because of the bad beef market up here. Ever since the mad cow outbreak, tractor sales have gone down. With the beef prices so bad, and unstable, almost no farmer wants to take the risk at the moment, of if they do, it is no a major purchase.

Now as for the compacts, alot of dealers no atter the colour are thankful for them. Because if it wasnt for the compact sales, alot of them would be in serious trouble!!

Take care

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

According to AEM Statistics for the Canadian market the only segment to decline in sales is the 100+ HP category. The Canadian total market has been increasing over the last 5 years. The Canadian market is just a smaller market compared to the US tractor market. The US tractor market is 12 times larger than the Canadian market. Even the USA combine market is 4 times larger than the Canadian market. I'm not disparaging the Canadian market but just pointing out the USA and Canadian markets are very different for many reasons. These differences show up in dealerships as well.

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

Hi,

Thanks for the stats. When the mad cow first hit, the farmers that were interviewed by news stations were holding off, but hopefully thats has since changed!!

Yeah, you guys outnumber us by ten times!! ( your 300 million to our 30 million on average!!!! )

Take care

Re: Utility tractor?\'s

We dont buy them to sale so resale value is not really a worry to us. We dont have the land some of you have but when in use our tractor what just as hard and perform just as well.
And as far as resale value goes I will put my Massey up against the others any day. The local JD dealer begs for dads 135 every time my brother goes in to buy somthing for his 5420. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
