Uses for a grapple attachment

/ Uses for a grapple attachment #22
I have found my 'Home-Built' root rake grapple to be a 'premier' addition to my arsenal! Continued thanks to Willl of this forum, for help! That said, stumps are a tough beast! Unless your just talking scrub and brush, your in for a challenge! I had ideas of "popping out" 4"-6" stumps with my 4200 JD BH, Well I learned a lesson! Yep. Except for bushes and saplings, stumps usually do not just pop out. 3-6 inch trees are more easily pushed over until roots are exposed so the grapple can hook and rip them. It is not usually a one step process like picking up debris. Stump removal with a CUT is easy compared to manual alternatives but realistically it takes at least a few minutes of pushing and shoving and tractor repositioning.

Beyond the 6 inch size range stumps and trees are more easily removed by using a BH mounted ripper in my experience. Even then 5-15 minutes per tree/stump is typical.
