I don't care for the JD 2025r. We have one at our church camp with the 60" mower and front snow blower. It is nothing more than an oversized lawn mower.
My L2501 is a real tractor compared to the JD.
I also don't like the oil engine capacity on the JD which is less than 3 quarts, compared to 6 quarts capacity for the Kubota.... both 25 horse power.
Less than 3 quarts takes a pounding, in my opinion.
I'm not sure what lawnmower you're comparing to, but it must be a pretty big one. The 1 series maybe can be compared, but the 2 series is a nice small tractor.

Mine holds just under 4 quarts of oil but whatever, I don’t here of oil failures.

I often see the “oversized lawnmower comment” on tractors no matter what the size. Park any compact tractor next to big ag tractor or construction equipment they look like a toy. Park that same compact tractor next to a shovel and wheelbarrow and they start looking pretty good.

Hey all,

Trying to decide between a 2013 Kubota B3200HSD with 72in deck and loader 203 hours ($18,000) and then a JD 2025r 2020 with 120 hrs and 60in deck and loader ($20k ask). I have 6 acres with 5 that would need tending too. Parts a the yard around the shed/garage/house with another section that gets left to grow for brush hog and it's a hill. Not like a crazy hill but it's an incline. Would be needing for landscape work and then when it snows to help with that and box blade to tend to my driveway also. Are these both wise choices? Ideas on price and should I go with more HP like 30 or above or is 23-25 good? Appreciate everyone's help.
Probably either tractor would be fine, although I can say my Kubota L3950HST has been nearly trouble free for the last 15 years. Suggestion. PTO horsepower is typically lower than engine rated horse power. I'd check the PTO horsepower spec on the Kubota B3200HSD to see if really has enough hp for a 72 inch deck.

I wanted to add, back when I bought my Kubota new in 2011 my initial plan was to buy the least expensive L-Series model which (at the time) was a L3200, but noticed its PTO horsepower spec limited the size of some of the attachments I wanted to buy. Also the L3200's front loader couldn't lift the loads I was planning on lifting, plus I wasn't too keen about the L3200's 3-cylinder engine. The attachments I was planning on buying required 30 to 50hp at the PTO, so I had to step up to the L3940 (39hp at the engine & 31hp at the PTO). The L3940 also bumped me up to a 4 cylinder engine. By the way, I own 10 acres. I've found I use my front loader just as much as its rear finish mower and tiller. Over the years there have been a few times I wish I would have purchased the larger L-5740 model.

Much really depends on what attachments you need the tractor to use, now and in the future. Be sure to give this a lot of thought.

A couple things to consider...You are almost certainly going to want rear axle extensions on the Kubota. The MMM limits the extension size, I am pretty sure - check on that. And, this may seem overly picky, but compare the hoods. Pretty sure the Kubota hoods are metal and the JD ones plastic. I would go with the orange tractor for sure. 203 hrs is practically new.

You can try pricing a lower HP new tractor. You might be surprised on affordability.
New sub-compact tractor sales are down. Your local dealer may have some incentives to lower the price of a NEW model. And, as others have said, if you don't need the higher horse power, stay under 25HP. They're a lot simpler, and easier to do your own repair. And you won't have to deal with REGEN, DPF, etc.

I'd strongly urge you to try them both out before you make your decision. I thought a JD was what I wanted when I bought my first new tractor until I operated it. Nothing specific, but it just didn't feel right. I went with a Kubota because operating it just seemed natural.

The 25 hp and under category includes both subcompacts and several compact tractors. Same hp, but significantly different machines and capabilities.

Between the two tractors mentioned in the original post, the Kubota would be my choice. Only negative is the age.
I would agree with other posters- for 7-8 thousand more, you could buy a L2502 with a loader. Very capable tractor, albeit with no mower at that price.

Oddly enough, I rented the Deere version of that in 2011 and ended up buying a Kubota L3200. It might have been a 2520, but can't recall exactly. It absolutely was the right decision for me.

The little Deere was too light for what I wanted. Seemed like everything I tried to do stopped the Deere or pushed it around. It simply wasn't the right tool for my needs/uses. With the L3200, I can load up the 6' box scraper and move material, something I can't imagine the much smaller/lighter Deere doing.

Pretty sure the 2013 vintage L3200 would be pre-emissions, as I think 2014 was when the Tier 4 EPA regs. started. Nothing on my 2011-ish tractor. If I were buying today, I'd be going with what others are recommending, the Kubota L2502.

To be clear, I'm not bashing the small Deere. I'm sure it's a good tractor for certain applications. It wasn't for me.

I have a Kubota B3200. I pull a 72 “ Landpride deck. It’s a rock. Kubota builds machines to last. Check the frames and the welds on both machines and definitely drive them around. My opinion is Kubota all the way.

Not all 25HP engines are the same. The JD 2025 has a 77ci engine where as something like the Kubota 2501/02 has a 100ci engine so significantly more torque.
Around my parts, you can find used Kubota l2501's with around 100 hours for something around $16-17K.

just note. JD has their own way of connecting front attachments. I believe the majority of other tractors use the skid steer quick attach type.
I personally don't care for belly mowers on tractors, but that's just my personal opinion and I'm not the one buying it
The JD set up is the same as the Euro hook up. I actually prefer that to the QA. That said, they sell an adapter plate to be able to use the QA with the euro, only negative is they tend to only be able to handle 4k pounds but in the size the OP is looking that isn't an issue.
