Guys,

Found an old beat up 3 point disc. Its about 7', although I did not measure it.

Very little paint left, but for these types of units I figure an old rusty model still has value.

At any rate I could easily sand blast and paint it.

How much would you buy or sell one of these for?

Thanks

Fred

Fred, you buying or selling? If you're buying, check the spindle bearings and each blade. That's where you're refurb expenses will be. That's a pretty good sized disc for a compact. Is it adjustable for gang angle?

If you're selling, I'll give you $50 for it /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

That would go for around $100 at an auction, or less.

I'd pay a $100 + for that setup. I would figure on putting in new bearings, if I was going to use it a lot. I'd like to find one in that shape. It looks a bit big (try it on your tractor, and sell it if it doesn't work out), but one could shorten the sections with a bit of work. From the picture, the individual blades look to be in pretty good shape, and that's a plus. Looks like a good find.

I imagine that the TN70D won't have any trouble pulling it.

guys,

I should have said right up front that what I know about these things would not fill a thimble.
I was thinking about buying, but have no idea what the value of such an old unit is.

The blades look pretty good, rusty but its mostly surface rust. What should I look for in the bearings?
Also no idea who manufactured this unit. How hard would it be to find parts?

I plan to pull it with a 4wd TN70 which is not really a true compact. I can't imagine that this thing is more than ~2000 lbs which should be with in the tractors capabilties.

Thanks for the advice.

Doc,

I thought that might be the case but it never hurts to be conservative.

John,

The new dics I have looked at are pretty light duty. The thing I like about these older units is that they are very heavily built.

I agree...!

Best bet is to pick up an older unit at an auction {square steel tubing frame}... so it will outlast the tractor using it... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

{I only posted the "new" discs strictly for reference... against your posted angle iron pic...}/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

John,

Is the square frame that much better?
Appears to have more adjustment capability?

The units at my local dealer, that are heavy duty, cost more than I am willing to fork over. Tractor supply has cheap ones but these are very light duty.

The angle iron units are cheaper and weaker... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Any of the framed units, whether square or tubular steel are much more durable and stronger... these seem to last forever...
