Does anyone know where can I buy strips of urethane in order to make a custom cutting edge for my JD snowplow?

I got a big piece once from a counter top guy. It was a scrap piece that was about 5" wide. Basically gave him $20 and I was out the door. I went to them and asked if they sold it and he said no, but he would give me a scrap if I bough him and his crew lunch.

It was used for custom cutting boards.

last year I researched the poly edges in a commercial snowplowers forum. the consensus was that it's very low wear and low damage. One guy said that he could plow his lawn without harming the winter grass.
Talk to your city snowplow driver, the ones driving a plow with an orange cutting edge, and ask their opinion.

Check Urethane Soultions LLC
I just purchased two,one for my 9 ft fisher and a second for the 8 ft Ingersoll Rand power angle plow I use on my L3240.
Not enough snow to try either yet.
I have plowed with urethane edges in the past with no problems.

Hey Diamondpilot,

How thick was the piece?- I never thought about checking with those guys.

I need some for a couple projects.

Thanks!

Either 3/4", 7/8", or 1". I do not remember. I have since gotten rid of the piece of equipment it was on. I though about trying to get a 1/4" or 3/8" piece when I rebuilt my snowplow last fall for the face but ended up just going back to steel.

.

You could also use a piece of UHMW-PE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene). It's a very abrasion resistant white plastic and can be cut and drilled w standard woodworking tools.

Avail fr McMaster-Carr or a plastics supply house.

I have a feeling that is what I had. I cut it wit a band saw and drilled it with normal drill bits.
